Tesla price drop UK 2023. Changing times, changing market. If they can pile them high and shift them cheaper. Or is it like a 'fire sale' make money while you can.

Incredible.

Those bought at 2022 prices must be extra shocked but Tesla have previous for this.

Serious consider a model "Y" at these prices and especially using salary sacrifice scheme.

Richard Symonds, who has a few in his stock must have taken a denting.

Our "RHD" imports are Chinese and hopefully lithium phosphate rather than just lithium as be nice to use 100% plus charging and use public charging.

Merry Hill shopping centre just opened dozens of charging points across the shopping complex and nine more such super hugs to open across West Midlands that millions drive through each week.

£45k for MY is incredible value. Such a small price different to Model 3, unless you MUST have a smaller car, it's almost no brainer to go for the hatchback. It is the well regarded LFP battery, car and battery manufactured in China.

Personally, I feel lucky. My order was £55k (before options) for MY LR, this was the initial MY price in early 2022. So only £2k price drop for me. But I delayed pickup by a few months, so I got parcel shelf (early cars didn't) and suspension felt slightly better than very first batch. I think I also got the last batch with parking sensors.

BUT I would have been just as happy with the £45k MY, so the money pinching side of me is not too happy. My original ideal MY was AWD 250mi LFP battery with 7 seats.

I think it's changing times, where they have the margins to lower pricing. Try to get people who are still able (or irresponsible) when entering into a long recession. All other manufacturers do the same with dealership discounts or contributions of some kind. We'll soon see return of dealership "offers", if legacy manufacturers can afford it.

EV's  have always been over priced imo, so this does'nt surprise me,  like all things new,  prices start off higher than they should be, then we get the inevitable correction

i think we will see other manufacturers  dropping prices soon  😀

BMW managed to make big price drops on BMW i3's overnight when the UK Government changed the EV grants without notice.  Because they were over priced.

Dealers and traders are sitting with now cars they bought on finance, maybe finance from the Auction Houses owned by Hedge Funds /Banks / Financial institutions.

Maybe the Financial Regulator Bodies will get involved.   As many business's / companies might lose money or just make less profits and pay less tax on profit there will be winners someplace.

Maybe no market manipulation, or insider trading.

It will come out in the wash though if TESLA or Elon Musk are 'at it', and not just reducing the selling price of their product.

If you are talking about the UK then UK sales outlets always have to stuff in substantial margin as the car is going to be sold in that rather little used currency GB pounds and then the money has to be converted back in to Euros which is the base currency for car production at least in Europe.

So published RRPs are high but dealers have big scope to offer discounts on the price and even on the finance if you keep pushing them.

I would agree a car like my Renault Zoe has/had a massive RRP, think it was around £34.5k for my Riviera spec ZE50.  But one pay nothing like that as the price.  Government grant was about £2K I think, Renault were doing £5k off, got the finance at very low rate which count as heavily subsidized so the eventual cost was probably like £27k, £20k after I traded in my Old Octy with lots of miles on it.

Residual are pretty high, way higher than diesels for same mileage and probably up with the best of efficient petrol cars.  Fuel costs are about 2p a mile running on cheap night-time electricity, road tax is zero in 2021 and through to 2025 when my PC runs out, servicing cost are a fraction, I would say about a third, of internal combustion cars.

Total monthly cost of ownership ie PCP, fuel, insurance in the region of £300 to £310 I reckon and I expect a good surplus of value in the car at the end of the PCP, despite a large drop in Tesla values as not really competing in that part of the EV market.

Shame UK does not get the Dacia Spring yet, hopefully next year, as that would shake up the UK EV market.  20K Euros so about £18k when launched in the UK.

Meet the Dacia Spring - Europe's lowest cost electric car

VW Group have these 'much cheapness'  Peoples Car, Fabia sized EV's coming sometime maybe, like not anytime soon, but they will spin the story.

This year actually.

Pandemic, war, full of guff, it does mess things up when really you are just not quite there with so many things including tech or materials, capacity, cheap enough workers.

Compelling on paper!

VW should maybe have been nicer to Elon.

The new Model S arriving in Europe from the US have range of 400 miles, super aero efficient, super electrically efficient, what are the muppets in charge of some german brands, principally VW more so than BMW, that shape cannot be aero efficient, and even Merc struggling to be as technically good at anything like at a price those on middle strata wages can afford.

Battery size is still quoted at 100 kWh but presumably is the much more useable LFP format which is actually giving more useable battery than the slightly bigger older batteries.

More Model X Plaid on the supply boats from the US as well as the batches of Model S not shipped for about 2 years.......

Run is 5 minutes in.

This is all that will mater to many in the UK with it's 70 mph speed limits.

That's really poor with non-Tesla taking up multiple spaces. At least bunch up so only 1 space is wasted.

That is a discriminatory posting!

What's discriminatory about pointing out the limitation with Tesla superchargers when non-Tesla's are involved?

Cables are very short, so some non-Tesla's will take up 2 bays. To minimise wasted resource, cars charge port on the right-rear should bunch up so only 1 space is wasted.

It's equally as valid to say Tesla's should bunch up, if a Nissan Arya, for example, turn up and see only alternating bays are used. All supercharger sites that are made public are V3 250kW, so V2 power sharing is no longer an issue.

I am trying to find out why dpd electric vans are allowed to charge for 90 minutes of more in Edinburgh City on chargers the Council have made the rules / tariffs where the general public are limited to 30 minutes.

I understand that MITE who have Council Contracts had to use Electric Vans and might have exemptions, not sure if this is why dpd have.

Car traders, dealers, brokers just need to get their big girl pants on.

Peaks and troughs, like in all business.   Farmers and others can not control the weather, or the price of things others charge them, or pay for their product.

Prepare for when the markets are great as it has been for some over the past 3 years if they had the stock people wanted.

Great for buyers maybe, not for sellers, maybe the opposite of the housing market.

Nothing, but you didn't!

Indeed, but again you didn't!

Had I known this or you explained it then I would not have responded, your posting read like non Tesla owners were selfish parkers.

There are some lovely TESLA drivers out there and i have been saved lots of times by kind ones that took pity on me were there was no others available and let me on a charger, free or pay to charge.

There are many greedy and ignorant barstewards that park up for hours of free charging or will stay to 100% regardless of other waiting.

I meet many TESLA drivers that really have very little time for other TESLA drivers.

As to AUDI EV drivers and getting right on my t!t, it is those that are too lazy to get out a charger cable and go on a 7 or 11/22 kW AC.

They want the tethered 43kW to sit and charge maybe getting 10 kW or less.

But then that is a generalisation.   Some lovely AUDI EV drivers must exist, i just never meet them.

There's already reaction from the industry:

Residual values are why we have worked really hard at establishing strong used-car propositions.

Not sure I'd call high residual value a strong used car proposition...... more like a poor value used car proposition.

Sounds like: we want to keep prices high so that EV will always seems expensive. May I interest you with the petrol Picanto?

Remember, Tesla are looking to sell 1.8m to 2.1m EV this year. Kia are planning to increase EV sales to 500,000 in 2025.....

I actually don't feel the DFS effect ("expect a deal") when buying a Tesla. I feel it more sitting in a traditional car dealership when the car sales "executive" says he has to talk to his manager about getting a "better" deal for me...... Got to remember the manufacturing price variations are usually soaked up by the dealership network for transitional car companies. I personally prefer less middleman taking totally unnecessary cuts.

I predict Model 3 and may be even Y will be below £40k in 2025 when the expensive car tax bracket starts on EV's.

I hope they make a smaller car, MY is just too big. A £25k Leaf/Golf sized car would be great. ~200 miles EPA range, 50 kWh battery. Let's see what their 1st March "investor day" brings, supposedly "Master plan part 3" will be announced then.

The price of a basic Model Y has been reduced by 6pc to £44,320 while the lowest-spec Model 3 is also down 6pc, at £40,470, according to Tesla’s UK website.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2023/03/06/elon-musk-cuts-thousands-tesla-prices-second-time-year/

Back to 2021 prices for Model 3.

I was tempted with a Model 3 base level but decided to keep my Octavia due to no road trips planned and occasional commuting need that can be taken up by Leaf because kid hasn't started fulltime school yet.

£44,320 for Model Y base spec is very good. They may be able to achieve sub £40k for Model Y when 2025 rolls around and EV's get the same lux-car tax. Model 3 will definitely get below that by then.

Prices on their website hasn't changed. That's strange.

Edit:

Ah okay, it's on the inventory cars, not "list price".  I bet you will get matched to an inventory car after placing a new order.

£53k for a blue MYLR (otherwise standard) like my one. I paid £56k. Very small price drop, just £1k drop from list price.

But if buying now, I'd wait a few more months to be sure to get suspension upgrade. It is said "comfort" suspension are being installed to cars from China starting Feb.

Good on you Ford at least trying to compete.....   (Cheaper, fast charging, more range, charge to 100% no bother, more power in AWD)

The Ford Mustang Mach-E has been in a constant state of flux in the burgeoning, ultra-competitive EV crossover market, receiving multiple rounds of price increases until improving commodities costs led to a drop earlier this year. However, the Tesla Model Y – the Mach-E’s chief competitor – still has a massive price advantage on its Blue Oval counterpart, while order banks for the latter recently closed temporarily as the automaker works to ramp up production. Now, FoMoCo has not only dropped the price of the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E again, but it’s also offering a new lithium-iron phosphate battery for the crossover and reopening order banks for its EV crossover.

2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Price Changes
Model/Options 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Price – May 2 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E Price – May 1 + / – May 1 Price
Select RWD Standard Range $42,995 $45,995 $-3000
Select AWD Standard Range $45,995 $48,995 $-3000
California Route 1 AWD Extended Range $56,995 $57,995 $-1000
Premium RWD Standard Range $46,995 $50,995 $-4000
Premium AWD Standard Range $49,995 $53,995 $-4000
GT AWD Standard Range $59,995 $63,995 $-4000
Extended Range Battery For Premium RWD $7,000 $7,000 $0
GT Performance Edition Package $5,000 $6,000 $-1000
BlueCruise 1.2 $2,100 $1,900 +$200

Model Y standard RWD is $47k, but everything is the same as LR AWD and performance except for smaller battery and RWD. So I'd put it around Ford Mach-e Premium RWD.

Model Y LR AWD is £50k. I can't see anything comparable from Ford in their trim levels. The extended range batery upgrade is only for RWD?!?

Great to see LFP battery used as standard. LFP are very good evolution of Li-on batteries.
