2011 Skoda fabia vrs auto box ecu issues help

Featured Replies

Hello I am a newbie I bought my Skoda from used car garage it had 100,000 on clock but full Skoda history and fully stamped service book last service cost over £3000 and was mainly front suspension, engine service and a new spare wheel, but now I  have had some disappointing news… my vrs has been great up to now but recently I have had a few issues the first was electrical but was sorted by new battery upgrade but since then it started to jump out of gear ( maxi dot flashing gear number but no power) also jumps into limp mode so I was puzzled I took it to my garage they took about ten minutes on code reader to diagnose I need a replacement ecu for my dsg auto box the pressure bowl has hairline crack in it so not keeping pressure so gear change is not happening I have been quoted £2000 for repair which obviously I’m gutted over wondering if you guys have any ideas? Or if anyone is interested in a project as I cannot afford that sort of repair let me know thanks

Welcome.

Very unfortunate but not unusual sadly.

£3,000 was a crazy amount of money.

Spare wheels with tyres about £50 on here for sales, that was some service they did, or charged for and lots of suspension parts and labour.

First do not give a Skoda Dealership your money.

You will need an automatic gearbox specialist, all the gear and more than ideas.

Maybe time to get new clutch pack as well as the repair, MCU refurb or repair / upgrade. selector forks or whatever.

Read the thread started only tonight by a member with a 2010 vRS.

So the Tech knows the fault and knows just a new MCU and fixed. Really.

Thanks for all your suggestions I have spoken to a few independent auto gearbox specialists and general consensus is I am probably better off selling it as a parts or project than going down repair route. It’s a shame but I understand the logic I just will not get back financially what I would have to put into it but someone with mechanic knowledge would definitely benefit from it so that’s what I will do.. just not sure if you have a selling page or not? If not pass the message around otherwise I will put it on flea#ay or something

Ones have been sold here before for very little money.

You will see the old ads in the for sale adverts.

They can be repaired for under £2,000.  Maybe quite a bit less.  But if you have nobody to do that you are stuck.

If you punt the car for something silly like £500 & then spend that and £2,000 on another car, what are you getting for £2,500, Other than probably another money pit.

I bet those Auto Specialist would be rubbing their hands if they can get your car at a snip.

You can replace the pressure vessel yourself for very little money in fairness the repair kits are on eBay , so saying it needs a new ecu when the vessel is faulty is complete nonsense , I know a gearbox specialist who would be able to fix it but it’s a bit away from you might be worth sending them the mechatronics unit ?
