Roof Rails

Featured Replies

Does anyone have experience of fitting roof rails to an Octavia Estate?

I have a '99 Glxi which does not have rails and would like to fit them. i've seen them listed as an accessory, are they self fit or dealer fit?

Any advice/info much appreciated

Thanks Paul

Mine had them fitted as standard, I'll take a look and see if it's obvious how \ where they lock into......

Hi Paul,

I had a similar situation, and decided to get them fitted by a dealer.

If you're interested, here's the basic diagram to give you some idea of how they're fitted: http://www.pierce.de/misc/roofrails.JPG (I'm not posting it here directly because it's biggish).

Note that the instructions say that the rails [b:49a5ee3a82]may only be mounted by Skoda Auto Contract Dealers[/b:49a5ee3a82], not sure if this has any insurance consequences if you do it yourself. Obviously, with a 99 model warranty is not an issue for you.

Hope this info is useful.

Thanks for this link, very useful. I had been told that fitting the roof bars required the headlining to be removed and looking at the link diagram appears to confirm that. I think I'll be doing a cost benefit analysis to see if it's worth giving up a spare day or pay a dealer for his days work!

Thanks again for the reply

Paul,

Dont have any knowledge of anyone doing this as a DIY option, however I know of an apprentice that fitted some to an estate Octavisa at a Skoda dealership and due to a problem when fitting the roof distorted. The car then had to be repaired in a body shop. So personaly I would let a dealer fit them as they will be covered should things go wrong.

One of the few criticisms that I have read concerning the Octavia Estate is that the roof is very flexible. I would play safe and have the roof bars professionally fitted, as John advises.

Thanks Guys,

Looks like I'll saving up for the pro-fit, I don't want to go looking for problems. If you take a look at my posting earlier today "off the road after just 4 days" you'll see that I've got off to rather a bad start with my car. Today, the fourth day of ownership, the beast let me down big style. Spending on the roof bars may become a function of rebuilding my confidence in the car!

Thanks - Paul
