Bound To Happen, Apparently

Featured Replies

August '21 1.5 Estate. Had it for 2 months and seen the warnings about the SOS system on here and thankfully been immune to it. Until now, that is.

First trip away from home in it and 150 miles in the double pops started. After 5 of them the "SOS, visit main dealer", warning came on and the satnav decided I should do a U-turn at 70mph on the A1 because it thought I was on a housing estate 10 miles away. Parked the car overnight at my destination, went out this morning and so far it's been "loading my settings" for 5 hours. Rang the dealers; "Oh, yes, you'll need to bring it in for a software update and we'll need it all day".

So, the upshot is that I'm away on hoiday for 4 more days with no phone link, no satnav, no radio and no music. Nobody mentioned "software issues" when they took my 25 grand.

Only quick suggestion is to press and hold down your power button on the unit until it resets, just turning off the igntion is often not enough to sort it out.

It might reset your profile back to guest/basic... but at least you will get some much needed music/sat nav.

Many thanks, varooom, will give it a go.

It might be 30 seconds to hold it down, but hopefully that should do a soft reset of sorts.

Best of luck, they are not the best the MIB3 units. 🤐

Update; car booked in at dealers for the day a week tomorrow as: "we're short of technicians". Told them that uploading anything below 1896 will be futile.

It might need that and update to the OCU also, goes hand in hand really, make sure they are checking software versions on that module.

Also, did the bugger start working after the long power button reset?  Could help others to know.

No joy with the reset attempt, sadly.

Update; dealer had the car today for update. They said that they were unaware of the meaning of 1896 but had updated my car's software from 0135 to 0144, if that means anything. They  also told me that the SOS fault is related to how long I was driving for as opposed to any use of satnav etc.

So they updated the OCU firmware only.

The radio/infotainment firmware is separate, but sometimes needs an update so the system is in balance.

You can see what firmware is in radio by pressing and holding you Menu/Setup button down for about 10 seconds, and having a "sniff" around in the menu's carefully, send images in here if you can please.  Anyhow, more a check at this stage of what's in there.

Just got around to having a butcher's but firstly this message shows every time I turn the unit on and it's quite annoying having to tap "OK" every time.

Then I got in the menu. Images are a bit big so I'll have to post in stages!

Oh dear, attempted to load the final 3 images but it says that even one of them exceeds my MB limit, despite loading more than one on the previous replies.

Wait a few moments, it's probably trying to be helpful and "merge" your posts into one (therefore exceeding the limit)

You should be able to repost a fresh post in a few minutes without the merge effect.

Thanks, the final image is what happens when I tap on the firmware option. I haven't press the update option as I don't want to open another potential can of worms!

This will have to do! Should I bite the bullet and start an update? If it takes an age and I need to use the car I'll be doomed!

I don't even know what software version you have loaded... didn't see anything I recognise.

Update if you wish!

LOL, yeah, it didn't make much sense to me. There was no option to tell me what version I have now, only to update whatever is in there. I'll have to pick a day that I'm not using it in case it takes bl **dy ages.

Maybe someone on Briskoda will know how you bring up and get the version information on screen.  Be nice to know where you sit now for before/after.

Example of the screen I was looking for, perhaps you have to hold down Menu button for a few seconds only?

Tried to update but it wouldn't do it and I had to come out of the menu. It did tell me that I'm on 1803 though....

It will only do the update if you have ability to perform OTA update, that update version you are on 1803 is mentioned many times in the thread above by several... who then went on to get 1896.

AFAIK nobody was ever able to update OTA from that old firmware.

I bet you can now see, they told you porkies (or you was talking to the desk muppet)  The update for 0135 to 0144 would have been the OCU module, which is why your profile has been lost.

Now you need to chase them up to get the 1896 update applied to your infotainment system most likely.

I think there is some confusion happened.
If you hold down menu and home buttons, the option to start update there is for servicemen and it is assumed you'll put a USB stick to get update from it. This is what we can see on the picture from Tried5UserNames. Normal OTA updates are coming on their own and there is no way to force them unless car offers it, and it also does not restrict from using car.
To check the page with all the system information, as the one you showed as an example, one need simply to go to Settings on main page of infotainment screen and there to System Information. Tried5UserNames, could you make a picture of that page?

Unfortunately I am unable to post a photo of the System Information screen as I apparently only have 255.79kB available!

However, here is a transcription of the information;

DEVICE PART NUMBER; 5E3035816D
HARDWARE; H56
SOFTWARE; 1803
DISPLAY UNIT/CONTROL PANEL HARDWARE; H45
DISPLAY UNIT/CONTROL PANEL SOFTWARE; 2092
NAVIGATION DATABASE; 20.3
MEDIA CODEC; 3.1.4

Not sure if you checked out the above 1896 link above, on page 6 onwards you will see plenty of people with 1803 that you have, they all needed to go in for update to 1896, then OTA updates should finally work.

They need to look up TPI2065556 as it relates to your specific firmware and a metric ton of fault's.
