Octavia Scout 64 running rough

Featured Replies

Hello all

this is my first post so apologies in advance for all the mistakes I’m about to make

i have a 2014 Octavia scout and it’s been starting to play up

it began with a dodgy idle, as if it was really cold or running low on fuel, but once we got moving we forgot about it and things were normal for a couple of weeks

the car was due a service so we thought it was just that. When the car went into the garage we mentioned it and it came back with a fault code ( I can remember the code, I might have it written down somewhere). The fault was identified as a fuel pressure sensor and something else but related to fuel.

the part was expensive so we thought we’d wait a little. Then the ‘juddering’ started. It felt like we were in too higher gear and the engine wanted to die but this was only at slow speeds and when we were in traffic. When we were on the motorway the car was solid and pulled well.

And we got this replaced and after a couple of days the juddering returned (I don’t think it Weber really went away) so we went back to the garage this time it came back with a fault code relating to the ‘exhaust flap actuator’.

we have just got this replaced (today) at a main dealer and the same fault is there. Annoyingly it’s intermittent, rarely rough on idle but more often under 30mph it’s like we are In too higher gear, there is a drop in power then a surge.

I took the car back to the first (local) garage and there are no fault codes present

the garage is next to ASDA so I got a bottle of diesel injector cleaner (£4.50) and poured that in, as yet no difference….

please help

then it st

Try a new fuel filter and air filter as a cheap starting place?

Also try charging the car battery to full on a smart charger. Is it the original battery as a low battery can cause a multitude of sensors to play up.

Hello Cheeze

it had a service only a couple of months ago and trust the local garage would have changed them

could they have got so grotty so soon?

thanks

The service schedule is quite long on the filters something in the region of 60-80k miles IIRC.  As such they genuinely might not have been done, particularly the fuel filter.

Depending on how comfortable you are the air filter is an easy DIY and fuel filter is down to your comfort levels.

They can really cause issues when they get old/dirty.

If you have a smart battery charger, I’d try that first as a car can go mad when batteries reach end of life.

It may not be these but it won’t hurt if not recently done and the battery is a simple thing to rule out. Flat batteries can leave you chasing lots of ghost errors whilst the car still runs.

Hi Cheeze

i was just watching videos on how to change the filters, looks easy enough

A couple of years ago ‘Knick fit’ said we needed a new battery but we hadn’t noticed anything off and just thought they were ‘up selling’?

I’ll give these suggestions a go.

thanks
