Advice please - Octavia 2006 Elegance - DMF replacement

Featured Replies

Hello

I'm new to this forum but I hope someone might advise.
I have a Skoda Octavia II Elegance Hatch/Estate model 1.9 TDi with all the extras like leather seats etc. It's done 144,000 miles.  Its been the best car to drive I've ever had but I have recently been advised that it needs a DMF replacement (along with clutch I guess) at a cost of over £1000
I'm torn as to whether this is more than I should spend on this vehicle - Part of the issue is not really knowing what other big bills are common on these cars of this age - this is the advice I'm looking for.
Obviously it's my decision but some guidance as to whether others have faced the same choice would be helpful.
The vehicle does less than 10K per year nowadays, is regularly serviced and I'm loath to replace it - but I can't afford £1000 bills every year!  As far as I know there is nothing else wrong with it at the moment...

Many thanks in advance for any views...

Sorry - I should have said it's a 2006 model.

It was a matter of time before the DMF was needed. Done well to last this long. It is advised to do both clutch and flywheel at the same time. I don’t know how much it costs these days, maybe shop around, make sure it’s a decent brand Sachs, LUK type thing. Have the slave replaced at the same time. It’s outside the gearbox but I had issues with mine.  Better the devil you know these cars go on for years. Mine is nearly on 260k!  It’s the best car I ever owned also.
If you think of selling let me know, lol

I replaced my DMF with a solid flywheel and clutch kit. Kit cost me in the region of 300, and same again to have it installed.

I've been driving it for 2 years plus since, with touch wood, no issues at all. Certainly a cheaper route to go down and a common swap. Unfortunately I can't tell you much about the difference between the two as I had this done pretty much as soon as I got the car. Others may be able to advise you for/against better than I could, but like I said I've had no issues at all.
