Start / Stop with DSG sometimes fails to start after it stops at traffic lights etc, dash display reads "Start car Manually" or something like that

With multiple errors like that at once I feel this could be a low voltage issue. I suspect all is still not happy re battery and/or charging.

The flashing glow plug light indicates an engine management issue -which could also be voltage related.

Shouldn't be voltage problems, its a brand new battery and the glow plug was again flashing yesterday and plugging the OBD2 in, I extracted the for fault code 05286 and sent it to Carista for more info, the voltage recorded was 13.00V.

Car is booked in on Friday to have the throttle body cleaned so I'll be able to report back if that was the problem or not after a couple of days driving. Some days the start/stop system perfectly, then the next it cuts in a couple of times and then it stops and produces the error code and I have to start manually.

The error code 05286 is just a freeze frame of the engine data at the time the error P0121 occurred (Throttle body), this the information provided by Carista after sending them the report direct from the app.

05286 –

This morning I had another request from Carista support to do yet another scan of the cars ECU's and send them the report direct from the app, this what the scan produced, the same as before, no errors on anything apart from the TV Tuner, which despite throwing out these error codes, is actually working. I look forward to getting their analysis of the codes back in due course.

I have had my throttle body cleaned by a local garage (Trinity, in Springfield Road, Chelmsford) and I have to say that they have done a good job, originally estimated an hour's work but due to a stubborn bolt it took almost 2 hours. The car is actually smoother on take off now as before sometimes it would snatch a bit and also the engine is idling around 800rpm, before it would fluctuate between 800 to 1000rpm. I'm also noticing that it gets into 4th gear a lot more now during town driving at speeds of 25mph, before it was nearer to 30mph, so fuel economy should be better as well. Time will tell on that front.

When I went to pick up my this afternoon, I was pleasantly surprised when I was informed that had a couple of photos for me to show what they found on removal and another showing how clean it was when they refitted it, I attach these below, and I'm amazed at the state it was in and can see why the OBD2 error report said that the body was giving an implausible reading, the gunk was preventing the flap from sitting correctly and thus giving the ECU an input that might suggest the engine might run at too high rpm if the start/stop system were to start the engine and the car shoot of at unexpected speed? Does that make sense?

An update on the topic for you, it has been a whole week since the body was cleaned, and I've done a fair bit of driving in that week, in traffic with the stop/start performing absolutely brilliantly, not missing a beat, stops instantly with no rough shudder and starts the same way. Power delivery is also perfectly smooth when pulling away from stationary, and the idle is once again nice at 800rpm.

So the video I found on YT was correct and also a big thank you to DEL80Y, it really was just the throttle body that needed cleaning.

Intersteing read this thread!

My stop start doesnt work at all even though the green brake like comes up on the dash! I might just start by removing and cleaning the throttle body would do no harm and might even improve performance!
