I have just started drive my Spit for the summer http://www.tssc.org.uk/profile.asp?profile=71257&vehicle=20040527132159748126653

When I was looking for a cheap fun car an MX5 was top of the list, but I felt the Spitfire doesn't have such a girlie image. Also as I was planning to work on the car myself as a hobby, the fact the bonnet opens the same way as a E-Type means it is really easy to work on, and no electonics in a Classic car , unlike an MX5.

It cost me 2,500, which is a lot, but I got one with absolutely sound bodywork, because I'm OK with mechanicals, but hopeless at anything bodywork wise. It has never broken down, always passes an MOT, costs £100 a year fully comp and will not depreciate.

Have a look at them, there are plenty around for either side of £1,500, and I don't believe they are unreliable.
