Have replaced the battery in my key fob but it doesn’t work, any ideas

Featured Replies

I have replaced the battery in my Octavia Mk3 key fob. The battery is fine , full voltage. The red light indicator on the fob flashes really fast and it does not unlock the doors. Is this something I need to take to the man dealer to fix? I have changed the batteries myself before with no issues like this. Any help is appreciated.

Have you left the plastic sticker on the battery?

Not sayin' how I know this can be an issue :blush

EDIT: scratch that, just read your post properly.  Try another battery perhaps?

No Gaz. Have just tried another battery. 3.28 volts on the meter and the light doesn’t flash at all now 😉.

Sometimes you need to keep pressing the key fob to re sync it to the car.

No matter what,  you've got to have a flashing light.

Some drivers use a 2032 battery,  I do.

Have run out of ideas now. Tried 3 fully charged batteries, all to no avail. Still got no flashing light.  Looks like a call to the main dealer this morning.😉. Better see if I can get a second mortgage at £90+ an hour labour 😊

What make are the batteries? The remotes are very sensitive to battery manufacturer, it seems it;s not just about voltage but also internal construction/resistance. Delaers use Panasonic CR2025 AFAIK.

Beat me to it Dave. Tried a different battery Panasonic 2032 instead of a 2025.  Worked first time.  I can only assume it was a contact problem, as the 2032 is slightly thicker. All ok now, and my money still in my pocket, not the Skoda dealers.

thanks for all the suggestions guys.
