Obvious question for the fuel pump not working

It's smelling of petrol (did start and run a while ago but now won't) and acting as if it has flooded.

Sounds like the fuel pump is working to me, I would be checking ignition, start with the plugs, they have a very large gap and require a high HT voltage, they will probably be full of schmoo having sat for so long.

Yep, been sitting a while. The wall at the side of it has kept the weather off the lower portions of the car. It's still really solid (a blessing for these old Fords) so that's a good start. It needs

I should also mention this car has been named...                       It's so good, it's actually terrible...

I have largely done nothing to/with this car. The Fabia has sooked up any remaining time.   In tha meantime, the car, which was already known to 'car spotters' (like myself) due to its rarit

Will keep that in mind. Thank you. This is all rather new to me. :)

The mighty 1.8... :D

A good engine, IMO.

They have individual coil packs for each spark plug if I haven't got my wires crossed and if it's as same Zetec unit I had in our M-plate Mondeo.

A bit expensive if they go wrong, as mine did.

I believe so. It's the Zetec-E engine, 113hp. Code escapes me off the top of my head.

I think all the ones that passed through my hands had one coil pack with 4 HT leads which was actually 2 seperate wasted spark coil packs.

Bolted to the rear of the cylinder head I believe but its all a bit hazy now.

I was responsable for a lot of new Ford crated 1.8 Zetecs finding their way into kit cars, Westfields, Caterhams etc back in the day. I had a source and used one to temporarily replace the 2 litre Zetec in my Caterham while I did some tuning work on it and word of mouth got around.

I wish I still had some of the plastic blow moulded crates that the engines at in, they were like a section of a chocolate box liner and would accept many different 4 cylinder engines, X/flows fitted like a glove.

Re: the issue, previous owners had posted this not too long ago. Armchair mechanics favourite... :D

So yeah, that's all it's doing and although I'd like it to be running for transport purposes, I can get it on a trailer with a winch (as I'm booking transport through a company). :)

Yeah, same on my Escort Zetec.

Ryan, petrol goes stale after it's been standing a long time & can cause non-start.

as above, and get a can of ez start... dose it through the intake, might just give enough volatility to kick off a reaction... start with the easy fixes ;)

And a great way of seeing if the fault is fuelling or ignition.

My go to diagnostic on diesels if there is doubt about cam/pump timing.

Thanks guys. Will get around to this in a few weekends to see if I can get it to cough into life. :)

These are from the original local Ford dealer, Dalblair. Now gone sadly. In touch with a mate who does all that graphic design carry on, he's mocking one of these up for me (below). Will have to find a Dalblair tax disc holder now! :)

It's not the original supplying dealer of this car, but I don't know who was and I don't want to have to phone half a dozen garages to get told GDPR this and that, when I could make it look like it's merely been a second hand car through the system... :)

This is what I shouted (screeched) at the Fabia when the battery died, much to the delight of the rather conservative neighbours, funnily enough. :D

I think we've all been there at one point or another. 🤣

If gassing it doesn't work (any brand of ez start should work, I've used a can of lynx before), don't overcomplicate, there's only 4 things that make them run: suck, squeeze, bang, blow. Prove or disprove those to yourself and you're most of the way there.

I couldn't see what the LED by the clock was doing as the engine was turning over.

Must. Not. Giggle.

But yeah I'll take that on board. I'll go up with some easy start or equivalent (the car is a decent distance from me at the moment, but I can go up on a day off and have a prod) and get some videos and try getting the bloody thing to go. :)

Rear drum brakes are seized on, so I'm hoping we can free them off under the car's own power if we get it going as jacking it up isn't an option thanks to the Almera. If I'm honest, this car just wants to lie there and rot, but I'm determined that won't happen. :D

Wouldn't worry too much about the brakes. 9/10 times giving it some beans and dumping the clutch works, if it doesn't, just give the drums a good clubbing.

Unless it's the Volvo C30 I picked up years ago when I was delivering cars for a living. Back brakes were stuck stuck and I couldn't be arsed rejecting it, so I just gave them a lengthy noisy beating with the jack and wheelbrace.

After which I realised I was picking the car up from outside the coop funerals head office/call centre.

I wanted to jack it up. Access is fine at one side, but on the other the Almera is far too close so the car will lean and hit it. The driveway is a tight fit and you'd need to be a thinner man than I am to fit through the gap between the Almera and the Focus. :D

Just put a bit of bar against the drum, between the spokes of the wheels and give that a belt.

Make sure there aren't a lot of black cars in the area first.

Clutch could be stuck as well, no biggy though.
