Superb 3 2.0 TSI 280 HP blown turbo and destroyed engine

Featured Replies

Got my turbo blown on Superb 3 2016 2.0TSI 280 HP with cca. 128.000km (cca. 80.000 miles). 😒

What is interesting there was only small "bumb" felt, cruise control at 130 kmh (cca. 80 mph) did not disengage and no warning lights came on. Only thick smoke was visible at from the rear.

I noticed problem too late and parts of turbo got sucked into engine. Result was destroyed turbo and engine.

Before failure turbo developed only slight whistling noise. I notice this now with new engine and new turbo that makes only "sssssss" sound without any whistling...

Sorry to hear this. Was this a standard/stock car ?

Sorry to hear. And out of warranty?

Out of interest, the chances of a completely destroyed engine are pretty low.

you may have some bent valves and damaged piston heads, you hopefully got away without scoring the sidewalls.

to me that sounds like a perfect time for a bigger turbo, ported head and larger valves and cylinder bored slightly for larger pistons for a bit more of a kick 😛
