Leaking fluid from engine mount

Featured Replies

My Kamiq has just hit 15,000 miles. I've noticed there appears to be some sort of fluid leak close to the top left engine mount. It looks like the fluid is coming from the mount (are the mounts oil filled?)

Has anyone had similar?

It is the engine mount that has leaked the fluid, my Kamiq is now on 32k and I still haven't replaced it.

The mount has got progressively worse and I get some vibrations on full throttle above 60mph.

My local garage quoted me £250 for the part from Skoda, strangely the mount for LHD cars is a lot cheaper than RHD.

I will get round to changing it.

Another example of "rip-off Britain" .....

I'm intrigued by this, can't quite picture why they'd be different. Care to share the reg or VIN with me (privately if you prefer) so I can research it a bit?

i think i got the same problem but oil went down to engine cover. Video in link.

I’m intrigued as to why the mount is full of oil?

At a guess it’s different LHD vs RHD because of the steering rack being laid out differently, while the engine and gearbox would be in the positions with all the ancillary systems attached/wrapped around them needs the engine to be held a different way.

Why is it more expensive? Probably a much more complex design needed.

Economics of scale maybe 🤷

Or just miscommunication, left side engine mount rather than LHD?

Pictured one being right side.

Also quite possible.

Still don’t get the oil filling though 🤷🏻‍♂️

My A4 had a hydraulic engine mount one side. It had an electric valve that controlled its stiffness depending on operating conditions.

It had leaked too.

Well Pete, that clears that up 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

Managed to magnify your second image to see that the part number fitted is 2Q0199262BJ, which is a current (not superseded) part number retailing at £192 + VAT. No indication in the parts catalogue that it is RHD-specific.

Are you certain that the fluid isn't coolant, from the reservoir that seems to be immediately above that area?

I had one start to leak on my 2011 S4 and that hurt my wallet quite a bit, as unfortunately some of the ones for the higher powered cars are not available from the aftermarket - well at least for "like for like" designs.

So in for a penny and in for a pound, I ended up needing to order in a pair and get my local VAG Indie to replace them as they are a bit tricky to do at home - raise and support the engine and dropping the subframe assembly, to create space on all the V6 engines.
