My EPC warning light has come on, what is it please and is it serious. mycar is an octavia ambient 1.6 petrol,year 2000.

You won't know until you can read the fault codes.

Either take it to a garage or someone with VAG-COM.

There is a thread on here called VAG-COM map which consists of a list o members with the equipment who are willing to help and you may find one in your area.

In which case you probably have a faulty brakelight switch. There is a modified version which should be more reliable. There is also a DIY guide somewhere here for changing one or get a dealer to do it for you. It shouldn't take long or cost much.

That will be the cause then, sometimes the outer bulbs will fail, so if these are not working and the high level light is, replacing the bulbs should cure it. If none of the brake lights are working then you will need a replacement switch.
