Felicia 1.3 upgrade

Featured Replies

Hello friends.

I was wondering if the Fabia 1.4 MPI crankshaft fits into Felicia 1.3, with the connecting rods?

Not without modifications, it's too large around counterweights to fit into felicia engine block. The flywheel pattern is also different, iirc and axial bearing is on different journal. You'll also need Fabia pistons, they are shirter to compensate for longer stroke.

It'd be probably easier to swap whole engine.

Thank you for your quick answer, for what can see it is a lot of work. Now, does this engine fits into the Felicia housing without adapting plate or is a must?

I'm running out of ideas for this little engine to gain a little bit more power.

The block fits onto the gearbox, but flywheel has different pattern for crankshaft sensor (and it might be larger, too), which is an issue if you want to run injection.

On the engine side, the mount on the coolant pump is different, but I've seen modified Felicia housing to fit Fabia pump.

It's also possible to fit Felicia camshaft and chain cover with some modifications - that would result in more power, as Fabia has pretty mild camshaft settings.

(this is for Estelle, but Felicia engine is quite similar on the chain side)

In any case, getting more power from Felicia engine takes a lot of work :)

Thanks a lot for your answer.

So, it would be just easier to mount a programmable ECU and low pressure turbo?

I don't think so, but an entire 1.6 transaxle will fit as long as you have the Felicia mounts as well as the original Golf/Polo ones.

Answered before.. The crankshaft fits with mods.

1.6 doesn't use any Polo mounts, it's mated to Skoda gearbox through adaptor plate. He'd need Felicia donor and then change whole engine wiring, as 1.6 uses different engine management.

It is possible, there are turbo'd Skodas with 100kw+, but it's not easy to make a program that won't blow up the engine.

Changing an entire EMS is a known thing; see Emerald Systems and/or Megasquirt  for example.

Thanks for all your wisdom, I just bought a megasquirt 2, also, my Felicia is the carbureted one, so, there goes my protect, will let you know.

I have an ECU chip (updated recently), custom exhaust and K&N filter and i got some HP.

There are some turbo Felicia but the whole cost is huge (except the turbo-intercooler etc you need gearbox-suspension-rims,tyres etc).

What I hope is to get close to the 100hp, for my carbureted engine it would be a huge upgrade, enough to use on the mountain roads of my country.

100 HP from a stock cylinder-piston 8v engine? From an MPI with ECU chip-custom exhaust-air filter 75 HP is already an ''achievement''.

For more you need custom camshaft, new pistons and work on the engine block, valves and of course a custom ECU programme.

The cost would be enormous but from the other hand a turbo with all the paraphernalia would cost less.

I don't know if a mechanic there can fit a Fabia 16V (101HP) to you engine bay but

how about an engine swap with 1600cc Felicia (75HP from factory) plus ECU+exhaust+filter?

I wanted to do the 1.6 swap, but somehow I manage to own a megasquirt 2 and a IHI rhf5 turbo. I believe I can do most of the work myself.

The idea is to blow no more than 10 psi, hoping to reach it at 2.5 or 3k rpm.

Have any one done this??

I'm not sure whether this mod is suita lenfor daily driving. It puts a lot of additional stress to engine and gearbox.

There's a turbo Favorit running 0.8bar / 120kW/235Nm on stock MPI engine. However, I can't say how long it lasts...

Wow, but that is like 160 HP, I only want to get like 10 kg per Hp.

It wont

Well your best bet is to keep it NA.
Port match intake and exhaust and develop custom headers (I can provide you with the calculations)
Balance the crank and flywheel perfectly and raise the rev limiter to 6500
Then fit a sprint filter and a proper silencer, take it for a map.
Then you will see 90 HP without blowing the pistons and rods to smithereens (but THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE THE 136 variant)

Well, if we're going that way (which I do know a little about) Weber 40DCOE, correct jets (don't know these) and an "up and over" intake manifold (puts the carb on the cold side of the engine) with a 3:1 exhaust manifold (presumes Siamese centre port head) and you'll be looking at 110bhp with a "safe" limit at 6_800rpm. You can get more with twin 40s, but that's heading for a "grenade engine".

If it reduces the weight of the flywheel when releases the gas pedal the revs won't drop so easy as in a normal car.

It wouldn't be easier and cheap just put a 8 psi turbo?, Here in Colombia is quite expensive the n/a tuning.

they will drop faster as it has less inertia

for one time use yes fort constant use no

side draft carbs do not have great drivability especially if the venturies are not properly tuned in length based on cam spec
