Octavia holding resale price

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Had some great advice here after asking a few things so Thanks.

I'm looking to buy a VRS Octavia, however from everything I've read the big selling point was that you get a decent quality car close / similar to the big names but with a nice saving making it very attractive to own a Skoda.

I'm looking around and 14/15 Octavias (range wildly obviously dependent on spec miles etc) but let's say between 12-14k. Now... There's a few face-lift 17 plate A4 estates that are between a similar price bracket, so obviously down to a personal choice etc but I feel I'm looking at Skodas 3 years older than face-lift A4s for similar money, surely id be picking the slightly higher quality Audi? Or has the value of used Skoda slowly risen, while premium brands are dropping?

Hope this makes sense, just wondering!

Thanks

There are sellers asking ridiculous prices for used cars and this can be because of the supposed shortage and because Dealers & Traders might have paid too much in trade ins or buying from auction etc.

You will be paying a premium from a business / dealer / trader but getting some consumer protection more than private purchases.

Prices are all over the place and you need to decide what is good value, or worth the price, or desirable.

9-12 year old cars are plentiful in the UK and at different prices around the UK so it is just a case of finding what you want.

Just be aware of additional costs of maintenance and servicing if stuff is not up to date with the previous keepers ownership and budget for having to have stuff done and who you will be having do it for you.

It's all down to supply & demand, basically.

I'd go with whatever you fancy the most for the cash that you want to spend. I tend to buy as lower mileage as I can afford with a fsh, preferably from a reputable dealer, just in case it needs to go back within the first month from purchase, as you have more legal rights buying from a dealer. Obviously doesn't have to be a main dealer, as you tend to pay a little bit more for that privilege,

  • 1 month later...

Buy the car you really want. Nothing worse than driving along and seeing the car you should of bought....

Are you looking for petrol or diesel?

Agree with some of the comments. I have a 15 plate DSG VRS petrol estate with a nice spec and 88k on the clock and FDSH. Not for sale, but I'd estimate £12.5k so maybe not ridiculous. Or I'm influenced by prices.

IMO, Autotrader is ALWAYS high. eBay could be a good one to look at but as someone said, supply and demand. Very few TSi's around, TDi's are certainly cheaper as they fall out of fashion.

Audi's are great, interior will probably be slightly better than the Skoda. Servicing costs with dealers will be higher, they have double wishbone suspension so more expensive if you have to renew anything and if you want a well specced, sporty and similar engined Audi it won't be alot different I'd imagine.

There is an issue with Skoda Main Dealer Servicing and Maintenance and that is it is not cheap and certainly not that comprehensive.

With Audi you do need to find out to compare but it can sometimes be competitive.
