Octavia VRS or Fabia VRS?

Featured Replies

My wife and I would like buy an Octavia VRS because of the performance and space for passengers. We will also be able to fit the wifes Cello in the boot. This means that the Cello will be insured. If any part of the Cello is visable through the windows then its not insured in the car.

However the Fabia is a fair bit cheaper and as its smaller will be easier to park (we live in a busy city). Also we where thinking that the fuel maybe a lot cheaper than the Octy.

What would people recommend considering the above? Also does anyone know if the fuel ends up being much cheaper in the Fabia than the Octavia considering that diseal costs more in the first place?

It all depends - diesel is more expensive, for short trips it's not really worth it IMHO.

Could always go for a PD-engined Octavia, they're not particularly slow either.

Benefit of Octavia is the large boot for sure, I am not so sure if a Cello would fit in the boot so bearing in mind what you're saying about insurance of that Cello I'd probably opt for the Octy.

Fuel economy is going to be worse on the Octy if you use the performance a lot, but it all depends on your personal prefs.

My Father in Law works as a manager for VW so we've had plenty of chances to try the Cello in the boots of VW group cars (Wouldn't fit at all in an Audi A3:rolleyes:). It fits in all Passats and I'm fairly sure that Octavias are the same size.

The car will be used mainly for 45min runs to works but also for a few (not many) shorter trips during the week. We also won't be thrashing it much.

45 minute jouney to work would make the diesel a more sensible option, but as much as i love my Fabia VRs i really can't imagine a cello fitting in the boot!

I think maybe an Octavia Diesel may be the answer, particularly if you won't be thrashing too much.

Get's my vote too, if it doesn't fit an Audi A3 there is NO hope of fitting it in the boot of the Fabia vRS - none whatsoever :)

An estate version of the Fabia might work, drop in the PD100 + nice spec and you've got a car that will be pretty cheap to run, good performance and nice for cruising + it will fit your Cello I'd imagine.

The Octavia just sounds like the better choice for your needs, be it petrol/diesel, just IMHO of course :)

vRS Estate every time, but then I am biased.

I vote for an Oct'y est 2.0 tdi.

plenty of fun to be had:thumbup:

If you're looking at buying new, then Octy II vRS TDI? Otherwise, it's gotta be the Octy if the cello is important, either vRS or PD130 :D

I can confirm that a cello doesn't fit in the boot of my Mk1 Octavia vRS. I just double checked and there was no way it was going in at all - the cello is in a hard case if this helps. You'd have to fold one of the seats down and that makes it no better than the Fabia. As for fuel, it has given me an average of 35.6mpg over 3500 miles from new. I mainly use it for work, 7 miles each way, with a few long hauls to boost the mpg figures. I am a fairly sedate driver, with the odd occasion where I use the engine's poke. Hope this information is of some use,

Andrew.
