2 issues- phone too long for charging pad and Android Auto wireless working solution please

Featured Replies

Hi,

Skoda Superb Combi Mk III (08/2018) here.

My LG Velvet phone is far too long for that little charging pad (what type of gimmick phones do the Czech car engineers have?). I need to run Android Auto (Waze and media player) and Android Auto only connects via USB cable right now which is a pita.

Does anyone have a solution of an after-market charging pad and have a solution to run Android Auto wireless? My phone works fine wireless on my other car (Jeep Trailhawk 10/2022).

Thank you kindly.

Caesar

with regards to using Android Auto wireless with ur existing setup - i highly recommend the AAWireless device.

i've been using for a years now its great.  no issues and so convenient.

it stays plugged into the car's usb port.

ur phone connects to it wirelessly, each time u start the car.

my AAWireless fits nicely in the phonebox, and i can even close the lid.

Thank you, I saw that device and would buy it if I could find a solution to place my phone onto a charging pad. My phone does not fit there. 😞

Welcome.

Whatever phones Czech Car engineers had in 2018 or 2016 when they started with the design / engineering of the car you have has little to do with your big phone now.

Phones were getting smaller.

As to a 2022 Jeep Trailhawk. Everything is bigger in the United States...

Where u put or charge ur phone has no impact on the AAWireless device.  As long as it is connected to the USB port via a cable.

I have a Google Pixel 5 - so I can put it in the phonebox and charge it wirelessly, while it's connected to the AAWireless.

Do u have an additional USB port under ur centre armrest console?

If so, u can place an aftermarket wireless charger in there, and keep ur big phone there.

Greetings DownUnder and Scotland.

Unfortunately there is no USB port in the center console but I might split the USB connection next to the cigarette lighter into 3, put one cable into the center console, the other cable I connect the AAWireless with and stick that with a double sided tape onto the plastic cap of the cabin filter behind the glove box, leaving me still with a third connection on the original USB port. Anyone who has done that or any suggestions to that?

use the box under the center armrest? Will have to look into this AAWireless dongle, though I don't like the inability of Assistant to handle multiple languages. Super annoying when you actually *need* them. As in I try to say an address and have to pronounce it in an English way... or how assistant thinks it should be spoken in English. I've saved all key locations as favorites in the mean time...

€90 doesn't seem too bad though.

Check out the "carsifi" dongle as well.

The charging pad is ridiculous.

I'd say it was designed to fit an iphone.

Basic Samsung Galaxy S20/S22/S23 will fit (just about)

U can't split the USB connection next to the 12v socket - u'll loose ur "data" connectivity and hence the ability to use Android Auto or CarPlay.

If u want to split, u need a proper VW USB Hub splitter and the associated USB ports.

Wire it all up, give it power, then code it in.

I changed my rear 12v socket to USB, so I can connect my phone and other stuff via cable if needed.

My rear ones can only be used for charging.
