Sky HD

Featured Replies

Had it for just over a week now and must admit it is very good. Ok, the number of HD channels is limited at the moment, but mainly got it for the world cup through BBC HD.

Now considering the feed is supposedly compressed quite a lot, the picture quality is simply astonishing, and as it comes fitted with a 160Gb hard drive, theres plenty of room for all that rubbish i usually miss. Shame it doe not record in HD as well.

Little nervous before installation but well worth it in the end.

Thanks for helping me win my case with SWMBO, she is reluctant to get sky HD even though we have the HD ready TV.

Your post has helped me win her over, unfortunately, I have to wait till September to get it fitted :( sad or what?

Come on Sky get the finger out!:D

Hard disk is actually 300Gb but they only allow you access to 160Gb of it.

Strange that it won't record in HD though. I understood that the 160Gb of available space was sufficient 30hrs HD or 80hours standard recording. If it wont record HD broadcasts then it's a rip off in my book and useless to me. Good to know though  cheers.

Glad i could help with the persuasion.

Not suprised at the wait though.I was orignally booked in for the 26th May for installation, but recieved a phone call a few days before claiming there were delays in producing the HD boxes, and the next available date was the 2nd June. It was that or i would have to wait till the 10th July:eek: as so many people had also ordered.

I must admit that i felt disappointed that it wouldn't record in HD, according to the instruction manual that is. Imagine my suprise when i recorded the England game from the BBC HD channel, that upon playback it was indeed in HD. :D It does eats up hard drive space as you may imagine. If you consider that a normal definition Footy game takes up 3% of available space for approx 2 - 2 1/2 hours, were a HD Recording of the same length uses up 20% of the hard drive. Hope that makes it more appealing to you Johnnyc.

Also it does have a sata connection for an external hard drive, and 2 usb 2.0 ports located about its person, which i have yet to try. Plus the box is very easy on the eyes sat beneath the TV. Just keeps on getting better, oh and did i mention the colours are just awesome.....

Think i'm getting a bit carried away. Gonna stop now.

Jealous!!!

Am still gonna wait for a few months until the price comes down a bit, £300 is a tad too expensive to just watch TV, it'd just be another excuse for SWMBO to not go out!

You have to pay EXTRA to sky too, on top of the alreaky WAY TOO HIGH subscription. All that dosh just to watch "Ross Kemp on gangs" for the 459th time this week.

Sorry, it doesn't record in HD  well what is the point in it then :thumbdwn:

The best thing about Sky is Sky+ we record all our usual sets of programmes with Sky+ and watch them at our leisure and have got used to that way of working. Even if it's on at the time we'll make a brew settle down let it run for 10 mins then we can fast forward through all the adds. Ideal for Football or Rugby as I always generally miss the start but can FF through half time and catch up, but if it's not in HD it seems a great waste :(

Well at least it's saved me a fortune for a new telly and Sky HD package, plus a serious kicking from the wife

got mine fitted a week ago and it does record in HD it just doesnt transfer HD quility to video or DVD recordable or HDD and i recorded the footy in HD took up less than 10% of space??? need to get yours checked Bouron, do you have the latest software update?

ITV is excellent in it's HD trial offer, shame its not avilable via Sky

I recorded the entire Engand v Paraguay match in HD, and it used 20% of the hard drive space. So to have used less than 10% is damn good. I'm finding the digital spy forums very good for sky HD info. Have found some good stuff on there. Lovin it more and more every day.
