New to skoda ownership

Featured Replies

Hey, people!

I've recently bought a 2014 Skoda Romster 1.2 TSI with just under 28k on the clock.  I'm disabled, and the Roomster seemed like a decent vehicle for hauling around a mobility scooter.  The rules said to say hello here, so...

Hello!

Hi,

welcome to the community.

no formal rules to say hello, just a nudge ;)

id agree the back of the roomster; used to own one and miss it, is very practical.

are you planing to modify for a lift/crane for your mobility scooter?

Hi, Colin!

For the time being, a ramp will be sufficient, so I'm not nessesarily going to modify it - I may however get something made to lift the boot floor a bit so it's level with the boot lip.  My wife is excited to try camping in the beastie, but I'm 6' 2" so it might take some doing!

As for mods, I need to get cruise control fitted.  I had an AP900C unit fitted to my previous car, which was written off due to an engine failure - so I pulled the unit and stalk out in case I needed to fit it to the next car.

I'd rather have an official kit fitted, but I can't find anyone that's less than 3.5 hours drive away from me in South East London.  All the local Skoda dealers are telling me the kit is out of manufacture, and when I asked if they'd fit a kit if I could find an official kit "new-old stock" - radio silence.  I guess I understand that, fitting a kit of mystery origin sounds like pandora's box stuff.

So I might have to have the AP900 recoded and fitted to the Skoda.  I think there's a nice chap in Essex who fits them.

I was considering getting it chipped because it's the 80-something HP version, but it's surprisingly torquey, so I don't think I'll bother unless I need to tow one day.  Which I doubt.  I tend to drive like a granny anyway, so the extra power would probably just go to waste.

Hello MudBarf :hi:

I use a mobility scooter too.  It used to be a breeze getting it in my vRS Estate, and while it goes in the Golf, it doesn't exactly swallow it.  So I'm considering changing back to an Estate, although a Roomster is a tickle I could definitely fancy

Oh, excellent, thanks!

I'll have a word once I can PM peeps.  Found a guy who can fit my old AP900Ci (turns out it's the Ci, not theC) and he lives half a mile away,  and wants a "couple of hundred" for fitting, but I'd much rather have an official kit if I can, especially since I need to send it off to be reflashed first anyway.  I can always ebay off the AP900.

Yeah, I had a few mad moments when considering which car I should get.  Thought about a Fiesta ST for about 5 minutes, but decided I needed an estate of some kind, and that an ST is likely to have had a really hard life.  Need something practical and reliable.

Came from a diesel, and I was worried that I'd be changing gear all the time (which can become very painful over longer journeys) but she gets up shooter's hill in 4th/5th without too much struggle at 30mph.  Was very pleasently surprised about how torquey the base spec TSI is.

@MudBarfhe might see later that i posted and say if he can assist.

I *think* it just let me PM him.  I guess the minimum post limit here isn't super high.  Thanks for putting me in touch, I'll let you know how that pans out!

PM received :) thanks
