Skoda Connect tells fibs

Featured Replies

I was just playing with Skoda Connect on my tablet, and it told me the car was unlocked! So I pull some clothes on over my pyjamas, go out to the car to discover that it was locked all time.  I unlocked and relocked it, went back indoors, and Skoda Connect still says the car is unlocked.

so far I fail to see the use of it, at least its free.

P.S. Also when I first used it the grid showed me the car's current location, but now it shows a route planner.  As I don't have the sat nav, the route planner is a waste of space whilst the current location might have had its uses.

BriSkoda first allowed me to edit my post, then wouldn't let me update it, so I just reposted the whole lot.

Yeah it’s frustrating when smartphone apps act pretty dumb!

Only once have I had the unlocked when it is actually locked issue and that coincided with the car being in a location without any internet connection - so it couldn’t sync the status to the servers.

Are you using the Android version or iOS? Your comment about the grid showing route planner not car location sounds like  a previous version of the iOS app I use. I now get a Navigate tab which has two options - Parking position and Trip planner.

I'm not using an application, I'm using the Safari web browser on an iPad.

Given that my drive is probably in a mobile phone reception shadow (which must be how the car gets internet access), is it possible to get the car to piggy back on my home WiFi?

If you click on the screen that is showing unlocked, another screen appears with a refresh button top right, after it refreshes it will show true locked/ unlocked status.

That's useful.  Mine shows me that it hasn't been updated for over 40 hours and refresh had no effect. So I started the engine and that got it back on line.  I also discovered that, probably as a result of a system update, it was on the 'Guest' user.  When I reset it to my personal user the 'location' came back and replaced the routing panel.  Begs the question why the 'Guest' user can override the location display.  It also implies that if someone puts the car on the back of a low loader and moves it, you won't know about it.

The privacy settings allow the location to be uploaded to the servers, or not as the case my be. I think th default is not to sync hence a guest user location wont be seen. As I understand it, the ‘authorities’ can override that and track the vehicle.

Hopefully your Škoda Connect is now working as you want/need it to.

Yes I believe it is, though never tried/proven it.

I just investigated connecting to an external WiFi - yes you can BUT unlike a tablet, which will use whatever is best (mobile network or WiFi), the infotainment will only do one or the other.  If you connect to a WiFi it will drop the eSIM mobile connection.  What I don't know is if it will go back to the eSIM if a) you drop the WiFi or b) you go out of range of the WiFi. On the basis that I don't want to lose the eSIM at the moment I've well alone.  But in the future if I start getting charged for the eSIM I may drop it completely and just use the WiFi option.
