Pd130 vrs stage 1 turbo failure

Featured Replies

Hey guys I’m running a simple remap on my pd130 2005 plate which was professionally done via dyno and I believe the turbo has given up and I’m in need of getting it fixed.

I’ve read that pd150 might be the way to go as a replacement, Is it a like for like swap? I won’t be doing the repair myself as the car is at the garage.

Am I best off just getting the original turbo to be sent off and repaired? I really don’t want to mess about with the mapping on the car.

cheers.

Just stick with standard if you don't want to remap it again.

Reliably reconditioned turbo might save you £50-£75 over a new factory unit. When the job might cost £1000-£1500....

Just an update from my research so far… a GT1752 hybrid turbo is £450 and I can pick up a reconditioned standard pd130 for about £300/£400. Someone says that on a stage 1 remap you can get away with not having to remap again with the GT1752.

That seems very reasonable for the price of a turbo which is good.

Look, a PD130 will run on a GT1752 without a remap but it won't run well so don't listen to retards.

Why on earth would you want to spend an extra £150 on the wrong turbo unless you're going to do it properly with a FMIC conversion, new clutch and fly and yet another remap which will all add up to a lot more money (about £1500 more in fact) together with a load of DIY work just to make the intercooler fit.

So just stop overthinking all this and get that car fixed and back on the road before it ends up in the spares and repairs section on eBay.

I'm a big fan of plug and play upgrades, but...there is almost always a trade-off. Sometimes it's a minor trade off, like an increase in price. However sometimes it's a very undesirable unforeseen trade-off.

If you plan to change to a different turbo, be sure to research it carefully and talk to experts with a proven track record of expertise on the issue.

Also, bear in mind that a experts can have the unfortunate habit of answering questions you ask, and failing to prompt you to consider information/issues you really need to understand before making a decision and finding yourself with one of those pesky undesirable unforeseen trade-offs. They don't do this maliciously, they're running a business and are trying to help you, but they're not going to do all your thinking for you for free.

Thanks all for your input, I think I’m going to stick with a stock turbo. Now this company I called have a BorgWarner turbo in stock for exchange £240 + vat, is this the standard kkk turbo that we see on these Fabias? I’ve read that it’s ideal to try and get a garret turbo.

Stop reading about it and just replace the turbo, Borg Warner is KKK, Honeywell is Garret, it doesn't matter which.

Dude, these cars are so old now a lot of the information you're sweating about was written in latin on wax tablets.

Remember chaps, we were all learners once… every day is a school day.
