roof rails

Featured Replies

Hello! I have an Octy tdi 81 Kw break of 1999. Can someone post some pics of fixing of original roof rails? On my old Felicia they were fixed with nutsert, but on Octy were are the places to be drilled? please help me, because the roof is very....... flexible!

Is it an estate? There are holes already there under the plastic trims, plugged with grommets. If you get the proper kit from Skoda (there was a change - check the chassis number) you will get everything you need to fit them. You then have the choice of buying new trims in sections, or cutting your old ones to fit.

Yes, it's estate! But no holes in my roof under trims. The vendor say there is not a kit, only way is drilling roof (aaarghh!!!) and put some sheet of metal under it to make it more resistant. It's possible??

up, up!!!!

None post pics or information??

All versions of the original Octavia estate share the same body shell. High spec versions have roof rails as standard but all versions can have them retrofitted.

In cars which do not have the rails fitted, you will find that mounting points for the rails are concealed beneath the plastic strip which starts at the side of the front windscreen and runs all the way along the roof to the back door. To avoid car washes rip[ping them out you will see the plastic strip is held very firmly in place by one time use barbs - so be warned once removed the whole lots is usually skip fodder.

Any skoda dealer should be able to supply the full original roof rails kit. Fitting essentially entails carefully prising out the plastic strip, mounting the rails to the concealed fixing points and then installing the new plastic strips in the kit which you will find are cut precisely the right length to fill the gaps between the rail mountings.

If you are not into DIY any competent garage should be able to fit them for you.

Remember in addition to the rails kit you will also need to purchase the cross rails!

I have some roof bars for sale in this thread

Selling on behalf of a mate who used them on an Octy 1 estate.

Do you particularly want rails, or would these be of interest?

so be warned once removed the whole lots is usually skip fodder.

It is possible to remove them without damage, but there is a knack to it.

I removed plastic strips long time ago, but under them there were not fixing point, only the "pins" for the plastic strip: and they are not able to support a rail!

The holes (if there) should be plugged with little rubber grommets.
