Windshield replacement.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This morning I had to witness magnificent event as my windshield cracked before my eyes. Long story short it will be replaced, but not with the original one. Company says it will be replaced with analogue which is heated, acoustic, rain sensor and camera calibration. But it is heat resistant (red) too which they didn't mention. I am now afraid it will not be up to spec. I looked at autodoc and there is only one variant available and in description there is no mention of heat resistance. Has any got their windshield replaced? Btw my car is ‘22 vrs.

I just got mine replaced with a original one by a certified Skoda dealer. The glass was insured.

Get it replaced via your insurance if you took thewindscreen replacement option, had mine done yesterday with Autoglass, had a two week wait for it, but it was like for like and no issues.

Contact your insurer and see if you have ita and then get it done by their approved windscreen repair or replacement company.

Don't be fobbed off.

It will be done by the insurance at authorized glass shop Carglass. I think you have them too in the UK. Its just that it wont be original part, but approved one by the Skoda.

No insist that it's an original Skoda part or screen.

I agree with TheWanderer. I intentionally went to the Skoda dealer and did the insurance claim through them so I can be 100% sure I will get an original glass. We also have Carglass here in Slovenia and unfortunately usually people, who change their glass through them, don't get an original one.

Thanks guys for the answers. Just some additional info. I talked with my insurance and guys who would change the windshield (carglass). They say benefits would be that it wont cost me a thing and a replacement piece OEE. That means it has the same or better characteristics than OEM as it is with the specs of OEM. My Skoda retailer agrees to that, but says that I would lose heated windshield warranty. Bad thing is if i would decide to change it at the dealer I would have to pay extra. Fk I am torn 😄 Moreover I am not pleased with quality of OEM one because my car is just one year old and I have never touched windshield with ice scraper or anything and it already got scratches and many stone chips. It is just too thin I think.

Im not impressed with the quality of the windscreen either, having had the car just 6 weeks before a stone hit it and cracked it, but I got a like for like replacement and that's why I pay the £75 windscreen replacement excess for, not to have some knock off copy which is cheaper.

A stone could break your windscreen at any time, driving it home from first purchase or 8 years later like mine (luckily its still a chip) the percieved quality you speak of would not prevent an impact at 6 weeks or even 6 hours from cracking the screen if it had the right combination of mass, hardness, sharp edge and velocity.

The luck of the draw, bad in this case does not mean a windscreen is poor quality, if it happens repeatedly then the probability goes up and up and would indeed indicate their windscreens being produced in the same way as brake discs and backplates!

It would not surprise me to learn in the course of time that you were in fact 100% correct, all the more reason for me not wanting a newer model, I have yet to read of anything that would be of benefit to me.
