Are all dashcam mounts the same?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Bought my first Kodiaq last week, 2019 1.5 Edition. Absolutely over the moon, but when I turned up at the dealer, they’d taken off the dashcam but left the mount. They claimed there was no camera (!), despite sending me a video of the car’s interior which … showed a dashcam and cabling attached.

Anyway. After a bit of a tussle, chose to ignore it and sort one myself. The bloke claimed all dashcam mounts were identical which sounded like bs - photo attached. I’m assuming he’s talking bowl ox?

And if I need to remove the mount, any advice on best method/tool? Seems concreted on.

Cheers

No, dashcam mounts come in many shapes and sizes. To remove it, I'd use a plastic pry tool to slowly peel it off from one corner, a little heat (warm sunny day) might help soften the adhevise.

As to the mount you've pictured, it looks like the GPS section for a Viofo A129: https://viofouk.co.uk/product/a129-gps-base-mount/

Why not contact the previous owner and see if you can't find out what will fit that mount?

Absolutely he is talking male bovine feces.

I agree with that. I use a A129 variant and it uses a GPS base like that

Was bought from a dealer who have been playing silly buggers. Was quicker to ask the oracles here rather than decrypt the dealer bs.

I'll give you another example, slightly more ambiguous. In the car's description they had "Rear view camera". I love my cars but I am probably not like most people on this forum - I do skip some detail, so I assumed this meant it came with a rear-view reversing camera. I think most people would make that (false) assumption too. When I got there, there was a tiny camera slapped on the rear windscreen, no cables or power to it. It's still there. I thought this was pretty crap. Even if "rear view camera" does mean a camera unconnected to the screen, it's cheap and low of them to pass this off as one. They agreed to give me £250 cash (claiming this is 50% of the cost of having an aftermarket reversing camera fitted), which I was happy with as I know it's £320 inc VAT, but am still peeved that they tried to weave their way out of it. "Oh we never said there was a reversing camera!" etc.

Name and Shame the dealer?

One of the Looker's (so I suppose not technically a dealer, but Approved Used network). The manager asked me not to mention it online and bought me for £220 or whatever so, will leave it there for now, but depends how I get on removing the junk from both screens...

  • 2 weeks later...

A windscreen fitter showed me the best way to remove things such as this - wrap some strong thin twine or fishing line etc around the top edge between device and windscreen then pull backwards and forwards repeatedly to cut through the adhesive. Hope that makes sense..
