noise coming from my octavia !

Featured Replies

Hello all great informative site !!!!!!!!

So I wonder if anyone can help me ?

Ive got an Octavia 1.9TDi 06 plate but the old shape if you know what i mean, Im using is as a taxi and everythings going fine with it .... BUT...........

.......when i start her up and pull away in 1st then push up into 2nd ther a little clicking noise coming from somewhere! Only one click but clearly audible, when i slow down and go back down the gears and pull away and up into 2nd again NO NOISE !!!!

But if i stop the engine, whether it be for one minute or 1 hour (remember im a taxi driver so plenty of stopping and starting) the click is back the ist time i go into 2nd gear ?????????

Skoda has had it in once but they were stumped with it

So Has anyone here had a similar problem , the car drives perfectly and apart from the noise (which is annoying me more than anything else) everything else is great !!

Cheers in advance:thumbup:

Is the sound comming from around drivers steering wheel area?

If so you might be hearing a relay clicking.

Is the noise definately a click or is it more like a "duurrr"?

If it's the later it's the abs initiating and clearing...perfectly normal.

Is it every time you start up, or only on a cold engine? If the latter, do you normally rev past 2_500, but not so far it stays past 2_500 in second? I've got a sorta idea, from one of my workmates (who introduced me to Briskoda).

Arh yes. My 2001 TDi (110), does exactly this. For about the first 1/2 mile or so, in every gear (I suspect), when you get to over 2,500 rpm, there is a relay click from the drivers footwell area. Then when you change gear, and the rpms drop to below 2,500 there is another click. Normally seems to happen with a cold engine (not so sure about stop-start of the engine when warm though). I used to think the performance of the car was better if I made the relay do this clicking when I firsted pulled off.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

..Its definately a click.

And its every time i start her up and push into 2nd gear for the first time

As for the revs I change into 2nd at around 2000 rpm and the click happens when the clutch is on its way back up and the counter only says about 1000 rpm and thats the only time it happens

I take it you guys on here are stumped with it aswell

looks like another day wasted in the skoda garage then !!

Cheers anyway fellas

Sorry, but it's not even like there's any consistancy about some cars doing it and others not. For example, Matt's does, but mine doesn't (at least that I can hear, but I tend to have the air and ICE on all the time).

Thanks for the replies fellas.

Hiya mate,

Mine does it too - over about 2000, 2500rpm. I don't worry about it at all as after about 3 minutes there's a loud click and it all settles down.

I'm not worried about it as it stops after a while. Does yours settle down too?

Yes mate, it only clicks the once then nothing (unless i stop and start engine)

Im not too worried about it just wondering if it could cause any damage !

So I might even leave it

Thanks again for the replys fellas

It's got me stumped - is it to do with the cutch action, as there is a switch on the pedal and it is initialising some sort of electrical system?

My latest theory is that they all actually do it, but you only hear the relay if it's touching some sort of resonator?
