New (old) wheels for fabia - width and offset advice please!

Hi all,

I posted another thread about this the other day, but now I'm a bit clearer on what I need, I just need a bit more advice from someone who knows!

I want some 15" alloys for my Fabia as I'm sick of the hard ride I get on 17s with 45 profile tyres, there are quite a few sets available on eBay but for Polos, Roomsters and Ibizas, which I assumed would fit as they're all VAG cars. Before I bother going to see them and potentially wasting a couple of hundred pounds, I'm looking to find out if they'll actually fit.

An online search of a wheel database tells me that my car should take either 6Jx15 ET43 (or ET37) alloys with 195 width or 185 width tyres, so I should be ok in that respect but do I need to worry about the offset?? I'm not sure really what it means, is there a range within which it'll be safe, or does it have to be exact? Most of the wheels I've seen match most of these figures, but none match exactly.

These are some I'm looking at, for an example - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195713828129, and https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285141388880 and attached below is one of my current wheels, which fit quite tightly into the wheel well.

What size are those you have on the Fabia now, 205/45 R 17 .

That is oversized for Mk2 Fabia if you have as the vRS OE tyres on Gigaro are 205/40 R 17  but some do fit 205/45 R 17 or 215/40 R 17 on vRS / Monte carlos.

Or have you 195/45 R 17's on?

They will sell well, maybe on here.

@Carlstonshould be able to tell you all the numbers for the 5x100 15" wheels you want.

Or they are in many threads in this section or the Mk2 Fabia section.

Hi toot, yes they are 205/45/17, and as you say they are oversized, they barely fit.

That's good to know, I'll miss them as they look cracking but as I say, I want some nice fat tyres to stop feeling every single pebble I drive over (and by God are the roads bad where I live...oh wait, that's all of the UK)

6Jx15 ET43 alloys

185/60R15 fitted to a 6Jx15 ET38 5/100 57.1 rim is a good compromise between comfort and handling on the Fabia MK2. This may explain why this tyre and rim specification became a standard fit on the later Fabia MK3.

Outside diameter of tyre

195/55R15 595.5mm

185/60R15 603.0mm (+1.3% compared to 195/55R15)

205/45R17 616.3mm (+3.5% compared to 195/55R15)

  • 2 weeks later...

thanks for the help and advice everyone, I managed to narrow down which kind I'll get, think I'll go for some standard Fabia 15 alloys when I see some come available at a breaker
