Diff upgrade/retrofit

Featured Replies

Hi all, i only just joined and I'm after a bit of advice. As I have a 220BHP VRS from 2015, im unlucky enough to have one without the diff (e-diff I believe?) fitted.

Does anybody know if i can find one and have my current open diff replaced?

I live in south wales, can anybody recommend a garage that does this?

Between a 30/245 VRS, golf GTI (normal and clubsport) do this all use the same diff?  if so any ideas/recommendation where to source one?

for full disclosure my intention is to:

  1. get a front diff fitted
  2. find and fit bolt on mods:
    1. Racingline R600 intake
    2. APR Dogbone mount
    3. APR turbo inlet pipe (wider diameter)
    4. ECU and DSG remap - stage 1 (most likely APR going by reputation or if a local tuning shop does a good custom remap them)
  3. Maybe some spring for the future although need the ride height and stiffness as is due to family car (dont see me wanting to pay out for any kind of adjustable air suspension etc)

All of the above is intended to be in that order so my diff if my first stop, the rest should be simple enough as i can fit the bolt on's myself and with my family but im just a bit stuck on the diff issue.

Welcome.

Use a search for 'Quaife ATB LSD differential Skoda Octavia vRS 2.0'

Also on here there are threads.

Ask those you are going to for your remapping who they recommend for fitting the diff.

See this project and the LSD, and it is a Fabia with a DQ250 DSG.  Kevlar Clutch packs.

Your two options are;

Replace your open diff with a LSD differential

or

Replace the gearbox, fit an external electronically locked differential and all associated parts and modules as well as some custom coding - unsure if anyone has undertaken this before!

My guess would be that the OEM option will be quite a challenge due to the modules and coding required. A mechanical LSD like a quaife would be a better option. Might be worth checking the clutch packs and doing a dsg service (unless it's been done really recently). You may find that with a remap, LSD and the bushes that the dsg remap isn't required. Personal preference of course. A pedal box helps too.

For what it's worth I am interested in a LSD for my Passat as the increased torque from the electric is often too much even with good tyres.
