Ferrodo DS2500 Brake Pads? Are yours loose?!?

Featured Replies

I've had my Feroddo DS2500 pads (front and rear DS2500's, OEM discs) on now for about 6-7 months and approx 10,000 miles.

The stopping power is fine, but I seem to notice at low speeds that theres a knocking noise coming from the rear of the car when the brakes are applied...

It sounds as if the brake pads are a little loose in the callipers  and they move around until I apply more pressure.

It's quite noticable when the windows are down and the stereo is off.

I seem to get 2 or 3 knocks which is a little disconcerting as the brakes are first applied!

Does anyone else have or know of this?

No probs....although mine squeal...need to put some copper grease on them.

How's the handbrake travel? I'm wondering if the adjusters aren't working properly, and you're getting pad knock-off as a result.

Funny you should mention that!

Handbrake travel is ok...not really any different to the day the car was purchased 2 years ago.

But on Saturday morning there was a metallic rubbing noise coming from the rear brakes after the car had been parked up over night.

The noise got louder with speed (did max 10mph for about 50 yds).

Then tried pulling the handbrake on and setting off again after a quick visual inspection of the car/wheels/underside.

After about 10ft the noise stopped, took the handbrake off and no rubbing noise since, though I still get the knocking noise when braking

Perhaps the retaining spring clip thingies have come off/broken...may have got jammed as per your experience and now results in some pad movement.

The retaining clips are definately on the front calipers.

The rears have little tin retaining shims which i'm also sure went back on correctly....

Anyone else suffering/heard of loose brake pad problems?
