Increase mileage

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

i have a 2014 skoda octavia 1.8 tsi Automatic and the mileage/ efficiency is not so good. In 1 litre of fuel i’m getting 7-8 kms in city and 12-13 kms/ litre on highways. Is there a way to increase mileage?

Will ecu remap help in any way?

@pab567

Highway doesn't sound too far off the mark. Depends how stop start the city driving is. Check / change  obvious causes like air filter, plugs . Check for binding brakes. Beyond that, driving style!

The highway consumption seems quite high to me. 13km per litre is 7.69L/100 or only about 36mpg (for the UK readers) however without some driving environment context the bare figures offer little information whether it is really as bad as you and I seem to think.

What sort of distance has the car done, has it been serviced as  recommended?

Remaps may get you a little better consumption if you don't use the performance on offer but you will probably never get the cost of the remap back in reduced fuel costs.

@TheClient has summed up your best approach to checking the serviceable items and refining your economic driving technique but I'd add it may be worthwhile getting the cylinders compression checked as a low cost indication as to whether there are incipient engine issues.

Is this a recent thing you've noticed or has it always had this type of fuel consumption?

@Anu123Has the car any record of when the spark plugs were replaced or have you changed them?

Is the Air filter kept clean and not clogged?

Do you run it on 0w 30 FS III oil or 5w 30 FS III so VW504 00 spec?   The 0w 30 FS III might be worth using.

I find your consumption hight. On my 2l TSI I have between 7 and 8l per 100km on the highway and between 10 and 15 in the City.

When my car was new, charging the tyres made a huge difference
