Buying advice please

Featured Replies

Hi,

Have seen an '03 vRS near me for sale. It's done 90k miles but has full Skoda history asking

£4500 would be more realistic

Personally I'd be looking at a model with less miles. While they may all be motorway miles, the car will still be suffering wear and tear, etc. :D

Thanks:thumbup: Will keep looking.

I think that price is a bargain for an 03, and at 90k miles it still has plenty of life in it yet. Mine is on 97k and has never used a drop of oil and is still tight and rattle free.

I once bought a very low mileage one owner 205 1.9 gti and then ended up selling it 2 months later as I was scared of ruining it and how many miles I was putting on the clock. My advice is to buy a high miler and save yourself a few quid.

Look around a bit longer - I did and bought 51plate Vrs with only 24k miles on the clock -

nice one mate thats seems like a really good deal! some dealers would have you paying around 9k for that!

Personally I've always found high mileage is not a problem, assuming the the car has been properly serviced. Given a choice I would always favour a newer car with higher mileage, rather than an older car with lower mileage.

My Octavia vRS has done just under 110K miles (51 plate) and has caused no problems, bar routine servicing. I also own an E39 BMW which has 130K mles on the clock, this also has no issues, due in part no doubt to its full service history. Neither car uses a drop of oil or water between services. I have known the previous owners of both cars for many years and know for a fact that neither car has required much more than tyres and servicing. My vRS is still on the original clutch whereas I know of another octavia - a 2000 1.8T SLXi with "low mileage" which required a new clutch, despite covering only 25K miles in its 6 years.

My vRS was cheap due to its mileage. I considered it a bargain as it was at least
