Superb III Combi 4x4 Sportline

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2017 Superb III combi 4x4 sportline.  It' s a brilliant car but has very little ground clearance for the mountains that I live in (snow banks, gravel tracks etc) so I'm interested in finding ways to achieve more ground clearance through suspension changes and changing from the big 19 wheels to something smaller but with a more substantial tyre sidewall height.

Could anyone give me some advice on whether or not I could replace the suspension components with those from the newer Superb scout or another higher-riding skoda or if there are aftermarket options.

Thanks for any help.

What engine do you have?

215/65R16 instead of 215/60R16 would gain about 10.75mm in ground clearance, and could be fitted to the standard 6.5Jx16 ET41 rims.

215/65R16 is a tyre size that has good availability of AT (All Terrain) tyres, such as the Yokohama G015 Geolander AT.

The Yokohama G015 Geolander AT has the 3PMSF symbol, so as well as being an AT (All-Terrain) tyre is also an all-season tyre, ie. it's winter rated, and has passed a test for good traction in the snow.

Thanks @Carlston

It's a 2.0 TD1 DSG 190hp 4x4.  The tyres I have now are 235/40 R19

so I'll have to get new rims but was thinkthinking of some 17s.

Those tyres look like a good balance of on and off road.

I haven't got much room within the arch on my current tyres/rims so may have to add a spacer or something ?

If you change to 215/60R17, there will be more room in the wheelarches (at least horizontally) compared to 235/40R19 as they are about 20mm narrower.

There's plenty of owners who run 245/40R19 on their Superb MK3 without rubbing.

215/60R17 only adds 5.6mm to the radius of the tyre compared to 245/40R19.

A 6.5Jx17 ET38 5/112 57.1 steel rim from the Kodiaq could be used with a 215/60R17 tyre on the Superb MK3.

The Kilen and Lesjofors spring catalogue lists 5Q0411105GN front springs and 3Q0511115M rear springs for the standard ride height Superb MK3 estate 2.0TDI 190HP 4x4.

Changing from sports springs to standard ride height springs would increase the ride height by about 15mm.

Another option, is to fit increased ride height springs. This would increase the ride height by about 30mm compared to sports springs.

So a change of tyres to perhaps 215/60R17 and a change from sports springs to increased ride height springs would increase the ride height by about 40mm.

Various aftermarket increased ride height rear springs are available that are sold to replace OEM part numbers 3Q0511115AS, 3Q0511115AT, 3Q0511115BA, and 3Q0511115BB.

There's also aftermarket front springs available for increased ride height.
