Hi all, so became the new owner of a 2018 superb 2.0 TDI 150 manual last Friday with 63k miles (fully serviced with cambelt just changed), and because I've only ever owned bangers, have never had a car serviced at all (I know that's bad).

So, being new to this game, what is and isn't included in the servicing costs?

I see on the Skoda website that oil and inspection is £195 and oil and inspection with extended scope is £255...is that the total cost? You don't have to pay for filters or oil or anything else?

I'm trying to work out if it's worth buying the service plan for £480 - 1 X normal, 1 X extended or £720 - 1 X normal, 2 X extended.

Not much is done at Oil & Inspection then Extended. .

Extras cost. So the Air Filter, Pollen Filter, Fuel Filter, brake fluid.   so before paying out lots find out what is getting actually replaced with that 'offer'..

With main dealer Skoda servicing you will only get oil, oil filter, sometimes pollen filter.

 

Other than that, everything else is an additional cost extra! 
all other filters, gearbox, differential, brake fluid - all cost extra and although Skoda have intervals for their work, they are only recommendations

In my experience (here in Ireland), service plans are bad value.  Service departments are distinctly unenthusiastic about them, the bare minimum gets done and often items that should be included are debated.  I got a three service plan included when I bought my car and was supposed to get a new pollen filter at the second service (30,000 km or two years).  The service department refused to replace the pollen filter as the car wasn't two years old. I ended up getting a refund for the third service on the plan and cancelling it.

 

While you don't always get what you pay for in main dealer servicing, you definitely don't with service plans.  Salespeople love the commission but someone has to pay for the discounted services and that seems to be the service department.  Ultimately the customer loses.  That's just my experience, maybe its different in the UK.

Will probably not go for the service plan and just pay when I do the servicing.

Service plans don't work very well as car gets older, inevitably things that need replacing aren't covered.  
 

Often things get out of sync too, as an example your mileage might mean oil needs replacing at 10 months and 20 months, but some parts due 24 months, so do you do them early, or defer them to 30 months or make special trip at 24 months and then have to argue don't want inspection at this extra service.

 

The inspection part of the plan is the money waster, because if it is going in for a job, don't need it inspected to say if job is needed.   I was once having a service and had arranged for rear brake discs and pads, but they still pointlessly insisted on sending me a video showing them needing changing, because it was part of the plan, so ultimately I was paying for it.
