What could be wrong?

Featured Replies

My car was running fine but needed a new condenser. I wanted to save some money so decided to replace the condenser myself and have someone come out to recharge it which they did successfully. At first the air con wouldnt come back on but he cleared some faults from the ECU and then it worked again. He said low level fluid can auto shut off the AC until you clear it.

Then I proceeded to put the bumper back on, wheel liners, wheels, etc and take the car for  test drive.

First problem, Battery wasnt strong enough to start the car, It turned over but failed to start then car instruments went crazy for a second. I jump started no problem but car was running rough I barely made it out of the garage when it stalled. It kept stalling, spluttering, managed to drive down the road but turned around as it was like a kangaroo. it actually stalled at the roundabout a couple of times. I got home on the drive, idling badly, revved engine but wouldnt go above 2500rpm.

I'll call someone out to take a look and get the codes from the ECU, hopefully something simple.

Could I have dislodged something or forgotten to connect leads to something? I think all I removed were fog lamp and front parking sensor , washer pump. The car is 2L tdi L&K MK3

Bricking it now as it could be an expensive fix!

What the hell could it be?

Was you're battery weak beforehand? Kangerooing is likely fuel related so check any injector connections in case you have dislodged something. The 2500rpm is the max when stationary so that's not an issue IMO.

Your best bet is to have the car scanned properly as there will be fault codes.

Well that was very odd and worrying.

The car is absolutely fine now. It seems that the low battery caused a engine management glitch which magically cleared itself overnight.

It was weird when I tried to start the car yesterday. It kept turning over getting weaker and weaker and I couldn't even shut it off in the end. Never seen that before, dials were going crazy too.

The battery is only a few years old and the car was parked up for a week so there seems to be a problem either with the battery, alternator or something draining the battery.

Anyone else had anything like this before?
