Can stop/start be disconnected from the front radar?

Featured Replies

In queueing traffic, when the car in front of me shuffles forward a bit even though the queue isn't moving, it really annoys me that the radar detects this and starts the engine again. Especially if we are queueing down a hill so don't need the engine, maybe eventually for brake n steering servo top ups. It can even happen if I'm first car at the lights and traffic driving by triggers it. I don't want to turn the radar off completely because of its safety features etc. I end up pressing the s/s overide button to keep the engine running, not so great for the environment.

I'm happy with the engine restarting when I want it to, by pushing the clutch in, or pressing the accelerator, or rolling quickly enough for it to decide its time. But being started by the radar when I'm not about to go anywhere is wasteful and irritating, and I'm wondering what is this doing to the life of my starter motor, battery and engine in general, and my nerves.

My 2019 Octavia 1.5 TSI has stop/start and the multi function radar doodad at the front.

Any ideas? Has this topic been covered before?

I agree, it’s a feature that’s not really necessary.  But tbh, weighing up starter motor etc and my irritation against the environment, I just switch stop/start off when shuffling forward in traffic…
