Škoda Octavia 2019 - problem with windshield - replaced

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I have an Octavia 2019. The problem is that after the front windshield cracked, they replaced the glass in the service center, but the glass does not have a heating mesh all over, so it happens that the wipers go over the ice. Does anyone still have the same Octavia and take a photo of the heating network and glass part number, because the authorized service center claims that such glass does not exist.

Blue line it’s where heating net goes.

Red line it’s where wipers goes.

I would say they are correct. The heat elements do not go edge to edge. My factory fit, OEM screen is the same as the ‘blue’ lines.

I know that is not edge by edge, but they must cover wipers path, isn't?

Nope.  The blue lines are correct.

I don't agree, cause orginal wind cover all wipers path, and wiper didn't go over ice.

Fair enough. My current 2017 Octavia is as the blue lines. My last 2014 Octavia, was the same as the blue lines. Not sure what else I can add to this.

does your wipers go over ice?

They do, yes. More so at the bottom of the screen due to the angle of the heating elements.

On my orginal glass, wipers didn't go over ice, but with this replaced they do. And on orginal heating start from vertical center, but on this replaced starte horizontally bottom, and in dot from side.

Not sure what’s happened then. But I’ve just been out and checked my screen and it is definitely as the blue lines.

ok, but if you see does wisper go over heating net, or not?

Yes. The wipers go past the heating elements and onto ice at the A pillar.

I'm with @SC03OTT - pretty sure it's completely normal that the wipers will hit ice at the edges.

The left wiper is on ice and you can see the right wiper also hits it, taken from this video:

yes this is how replaced glass work to me, but orginal was different. They start heat from centar vertically and go on side.

this is how my glass was working.

That clip still has two similar bars angled bars as per the blue lines in your original picture:

Did you get OE or aftermarket glass fitted - as they spec may differ slightly.

yes, but wipers don't go over ice.

Glass it's replaced do Official Škoda Partner

At 2:19 you can just see and hear the wipers scraping over the ice on the left side of the screen.

Move your wipers, they probably did not refit them in the same position, do it yourself & then you will know its done to the best compromise as I'm sure they are fed up with you by now.

What is important is that the wipers in the rest position are over a heating element so they dont remain frozen to the screen, its completely normal for nearly every car with a rhomboidal screen to have unheated areas at each side which are swept by the wipers, it defrosts very quickly with heat conduction.

thank you, i don't know how to "calibrate" them, but I will try. Thank you.

I think @J.R. means physically unbolt  the wipers and take them off the spindles and re-adjust the position.

Slacken the retaining nuts, lift the arms to break the taper joint then reposition and tighten.
