2001 Octavia vrs Intercooler and Qs

Featured Replies

I all,

I have a 2001 octavia vrs with 90k on the clock, it has just been fully serviced and I got the timing belt kit replaced. It has been remapped, has a dump valve fitted and has the airbox drilled. It is a fantastic car however on very hot days in traffic, the car starts to overheat and looses major power, like the car struggles to rev! What could be the problem??? Also I am thinking of fitting a jabbasport intercoolerb kit...is this a worth while mod?

Cheers All help appreciated.

On hot days the inlet temps will be high...this gives less power...also will not hold boost so you'll see a drop off towards top end.

FMIC will help...even on a standard car.

I have a Jabba FMIC.....after a hard run out or a motorway trip I can pop the bonnet and put my hand on the inlet manifold....cold!

Is it a worthwhile mod...depends on where you want to go with other mods....if you go the bigger turbo route then its a must....if you're doing trackdays...it's deffo worthwhile.

For anything else...you may want to consider Jabba's boost controller where you can turn down the boost in hot weather....car will drive better as the turbo doesn't have to work so hard.

Cheers, If I can get a chaep bigger turbo i will, how much is one and will a cupra r or gti one do the trick??

Jabba remap will see 225 bhp with the std turbo, a decent exhaust, say Blue Flame with a sports cat will give yyou close on 250 bhp, add the Intercooler & you willl have a consistent circa 250 bhp

Next you should look at Brakes & handling

After this you will start really bending the bank balance

IIRC LCR has twin SMIC....i.e one in each inner wing.

These aren't better than a FMIC but perhaps better than a single one. I say "perhaps" as there's a load of piping to sort out plus the LCR runs a different turbo.

GTi will have the same SMIC...I assume anyway.

wow...thanks for the reply..but seariously...whats it mean?

IIRC - If I Remember Correctly

SMIC - Side Mount InterCooler

FMIC - Front Mount InterCooler

I rang our oh so crap skoda dealer in Dublin and they dont have a space to see the car for a week. How nice, any ideas as what might be wrong?

Open the bonnet and check all of the pipe work, it's a known problem that some of the rubber pipes can crack and split causing air leaks and pressure loss.

Other common faults could be failed coil packs, see the sticky message about this at the top of the Octavia forum, or possibly a problem with a failed dump valve.

Will do first thing in the morn. Just fitted a new dump valve..mabe the prob

Lad call around to me after work and i'll have go over it. some of the Irish lads on here have vagcoms that can check the ECU for faults and will be more then happy to help you out, the dublin main dealers know F'all and are mostly W.A.N.K.E.R.S!

Cheers will do. The car is seariously down on power and this morning was both overheating and making a strange whining noise! I am kinda worried as i only have the car about 3 months. I checked all the pipes and they all semm in good condition with nothing loose or cracked. I checked the filter and she is as new.

If its overheating & the warning lights are on I would suggest you stop driving it until you know whats wrong or you could possibly "enlarge the repair bill"

Cheers..just to let you all know, i changed the dumpvaklve back to standard. No Improvement. I have found a/the problem howver , now i need to know why and how to fix, the fan is not working!

Fuse

connection

Tried all the obvious stuff yea?

There seems to be a fuse blown in the box over the battery, will replace that and see what happens. Will let you know what happens 2m. thanks for the reply

hey dude if your car is over heating its prob the water pump as they tend to go around 100k on these engines the reason is vag made the impella from plastic and these break up and become useles slowly getting worse then all of a sudden your car will go into limp mode however the replacment ones are made from metal as vag realised there mistake but never did a recall.

  • 5 years later...

Can any one tell me if this part is any different to oem intercooler on the octy vrs mk 1

Would it give a performance increase..

eBay no 220869179535

Thanks

why resurrect a 5 and a half year old thread to ask a new question?

oem intercoolers can be found cheaply on ebay

if you want an fmic buy a decent one or you'll see little if any power gains and get a whole load of hassle routing pipework instead
