Hi all, 

I’ve got a 2011 Fabia VRS (right hand drive) and is needs a new steering rack.  
 

I called Skoda and they want £1300 for a new one which is extortionate to say the least.  I’m looking to go down the second hand route. 

I’ve seen a part number 6q2423055r but I’m not sure if it’s the right one for my car.  Can anyone tell me the correct product code for the steering rack?

The vin number is TMBFP65J2B3199225

 

the old rack is still currently on the car at the garage.  I’ll likely sell it so someone can refurbish it.

Yeah, I meant what damage has happened to it that leads you to need a replacement?

 

6R2 423 055 J is the part number of the complete rack with tie-rods that your car was built with.

This part number was superseded by part number 6R2 423 055 L in Nov. 2013.

All the seals have gone.  I filled up the reservoir and within 30 minutes of town driving it had all drained out. 

 

 

You can get your rack rebuilt, probably the cheapest option but you may be able to get an already rebuilt rack on exchange, it won't be a part unique to the Fabia VRS, many other VAG cars will also have one fitted.

Possibly, but there are two different racks fitted to other (non-RS) variants of Mk2 2011 Fabia, so clearly there are some differences.

First of the three diagrams calls up suffix-R  part the OP mentioned, the third calls up suffix-T

With the Fabia,  especially a vRS, check that the parts 2010-2012 CAVE engine are the same as 2012-2014 CTHE.

Just that the rear axle changed, no idea about, front end.

Then as far as 'Track rod'.  there was a TPI and Warranty work needed around 2011/12 on mk2,s,  No idea if there was upgraded parts, or just replaced a duff batch.

That was vRS and Monte Carlo and maybe all trims.

I used these guys for my old TDi Fabia vRS, they were very helpful with quick delivery and rack came complete with new rods etc and looked very well "remanufactured". Fitted first time and was all good.

 

I would certainly call them wothout a doubt for a rack for my twincharge RS if it needed one.
