Tensioner moved out of center& poor mpg after head gasket change

Featured Replies

Hi

recently changed timing belt, 05 vrs, when i set the tensioner the arrow was lined up perfectly inbetween the gap as it should be. Been about 500 miles of driving since then, no problems, sounds like its running fine ect, but the arrow has moved anti clockwise slightly & is no longer inbetween the gap.
is this normal or have i done something wrong?

also changed head gasket & am now only getting high 30’s/very low 40’s on mpg when i used to get 50-60. Could this be due to lash setting being incorrect? I didnt take note of how they were set before i took everything apart so didnt have anything to go off, i bottomed each injector out & then turned back 180 degrees on all of them, however i do remember that before i took everything apart there were more threads visible on the screws than there is now. How would i go about getting them set properly?

cheers

It's normal for the tensioner to move slightly to take up the slack as the belt beds in.

If you removed the injectors from the head then you'll definitely need to reset the lash, although it sounds like you've already done it correctly.

MPG could be down to cam timing variation, check the torsion value in VCDS, it needs to be zeroed.
