Fault Code P020300 Cylinder 3 Injector Circuit Intermittent

Featured Replies

Hi,

I trust someone can help.  I have a 2012 Mk 2 1.6TDI Octavia.  And over the weekend after a journey of about 80 miles, the glowplug light started to flash and the engine had virtually no power!  It didn't even go to "limp home mode".   I just about coasted off the road onto a side road and turned the engine off.

After a minute or so I restarted the engine and the engine then seemed to run OK again.  The glow plug light was not flashing.  I resumed my journey and reached my destination OK.

I did an engine scan and this gave me the error code P020300 Cylinder 3 Injector Circuit Intermittent.  I disconnected the electrical connector to No. 3 injector and that looked clean and in good condition.  I cleared the fault code and did another scan and the fault did not reappear.

Yesterday  I drove home about 100 miles and had no issue with the engine and when  I rescanned there were no fault codes.

I have read that the injectors on these engines can need replacing and that the injectors are quite expensive.  (Typically £400 + vat each) So I only want to replace injectors if really necessary.

Has anyone had a similar experience and does the fault re-occur more frequently?  Can it be an electrical problem with the wiring?

All help, suggestions or comments welcome.

Many thanks in advance.

Hello,

Sorry for ressurecting an old thread, have ypu gotten to the bottom of the issue?

My number 3 injector failed on our way home from Xmas with relatives. The AA confirmed injector 3 had failed. As I have full AA cover they transported us and the car home (so I could take out suitcases etc) on then carried on with the car to my garage of choice. The garage replaced injector 3 and I agreed they also replace injector 2 as it was well out of spec.

Other posts on this forum sugest that once injectors fail on the 1.6L CAYC engine, remaiming old injectors will fail soon after. I plan to change the other two in the spring.

I think that once you get injector failure codes you may be able to reset the codes and carry on for few miles but inevitably you will find you need to change the injector. Reseting the failure code can also convince you that the fault  is intermittent as you can drive with no code until you demand high torque such as by accelerating to pass someone while climbing a hill.

Hi,

This problem happened to me 6 months ago and about 8000 miles ago. Since then I have had no problems at all with the injectors. I checked the resistance of each injector and all were in spec. So I am assuming it was an intermittent electrical fault.

Hi,

I like to update this issue.  The injectors and engine had no problems for about 9 months and 8000miles or so.  However while travelling back in France I had  the same problem, same fault code but this time turning engine off and on did not sort it.  Again the code was P020300,  The fault was the same injector and was now permanent.  I had the injector replaced in France and then eventually (about 2 weeks later) drove it home.  It has been fine so far.

I am wondering how likely it is for the other injectors to fail.  From what I have read it is the electrical part on top that fails.  Is it worth having a spare of this part in the car and is it reasonable to replace on the roadside?
