Could anyone tell me how the Fabia vrs compares to the Golf gt tdi?

0-60 seems to be about the same but I'm interested in the 30-50, 50-70 in gear times to decide if its worth paying the extra

Basing on the fact the Golf GT TDI runs the same engine as my dads Octy 2.0TDI I would say the two are very close with the fabia having more urge whereas the 2.0TDI seems to be slightly smoother in its power delivery.

However I personally prefer how the VRS pulls.

On the times I am unsure of them exactly but I can't imagine they would be much different. The fabia being lighter woud probably give it the edge as 10bhp isn't much in the real world. I believe someone on here (Appologies as I have forgotten who it is) has tested the fabia against the octy and the fabia won all of the tests by about 0.4 seconds.

I would test drive a golf 2.0TDI (or octavia) and see what you think. Then you can make your decision that way.

EDIT: Please note I am referring to the MKV golf so if you mean a different model please ignore the parts about the 2.0TDI engine. :)

Isn't the GT TDI of old powered by the PD150? The new Golf MkV is just called the 2.0 TDI. The PD150 is a fair bit nippier as standard than the 130, even though both are essentially based on the same blocks. The 150 just has a few tarty bits ;) and a more aggressive map to give it the extra 20bhp.

Sorry if you mean the new Golf Tdi 2.0 then like above there would be nothing in it in a straight line due to the Fabia producing more power than the paper says as standard anyhow.

On a twisty road i'd give it to the new golf as the chassis is meant to be brilliant compared to the previous mk4.

With more lag................. but revs round to the red line from standard as the fab tends to tail off earlier on.

Due to VW's bizarre badging of the period, there were GT TDIs made in 115, 130 and 150 flavours IIRC. But looked the same as some standard TDIs, apart from the badge. Then some had the upgraded Recaro front chairs, and some didn't :rolleyes: I've certainly driven a 2001 130 GT TDI with some lovely Recaros, according to the spec sheet :)

And unless you're talking about the Anniversary TDi, the 150 can look as boring as any other Mk4 ;) Not all came with 'tarty' bits...

Think the OP needs to be clearer about what he wants comparing TBH :D

I love the look of the anniversary golfs coming in TDI PD150 AND 1.8T (180bhp)Form with the front spoiler etc but THEY are expensive.

When doing a search i cant believe how expensive they actually are.

Would be better buying a 150tdi/petrol and buying the anniversary kit seperate.

Know what you mean - I still see 52-plate TDI Anni's on Trader for 12-13k! :eek:

The 150bhp MkIVs should be badged up as a GTI and have the proper GTI spec (as in the 1.8T). Usually means wood bits on the dash, 16" Monty II alloys and sports suspension. Spec depends on year - VW took pruned the spec in order to cut prices on later cars. Some of the nice bits like Recaros got binned :-(

The 115 and 130's are the Euro Highline model not a "proper" GTI. They get 15" rims and the standard interior. It was popular to up spec the 130s with 16" rims and the sports suspension as they are a bit wobbly as standard - my 1.6 Bora was stiffer and rolls less than a standard 130!

The new Golf has put on a bit of weight. My father picked up a Plus GT TDI this week and it weighs in at over 1600kg which is 300 more than the Furby vRS. Performance is about 0.5s down to 60 so I'd expect similar on the acceleration figures. The 2.0 TDI has a bit more torque than the 130 but not enough to counteract the flab. The 2.0 TDI is smoother and quieter tho.

Nope. Seen (and been in) TDi 150 Mk4s that just have the TDi badge on the back, albeit an all-red badge.

As far as I understood it, the only MK4 TDi to just wear the GTi badge was the Anniversary.

VW's badging system really makes no sense anyway! a 150TDI can be badged as a GT-TDI ( As my mates was) or just all red such as TDI, 130's as TDI and 115 as TDI and PD100's just Silver TDI badging, or you could ask them to delete/add what ever you fancy!

And to be picky VW's are always GTI's with a capital I, it's only lesser pretenders that use the small i :D :P and AFAIK only Petrol engined variants are badged GTI's maybe wrong and I think as you say the Anniversary maybe the only exception to this rule!

I even have a super rare green TDI badge on the engine cover of my vRS :thumbup:

The 150s had TDI on from the factory and the dealer was supposed to swap for GTI for the badge obsessed UK market at PDI.

The other TDIs depend on year and what VW felt like using, eg TDI was initially used on all PD cars but later 100s went back to all silver. Late model B5 Passats are even more random.

Yep, they even badged the original 20V 1.8NA cars as a GTI, Twonks! The turbo being distuinguished by being GTI

Also the 2.0 was badged as a GTI too untill VWUK came to their senses and badged it as a 2.0!

The new GT TDi has ~138bhp...

My friend has one (the 4 motion one no less) and there is absolutely nothing in it till v max where the larger capacity/better aerodynamics helps the golf.

As for drving -the golf wins in most ways except for the fact it feels big. Excellent handling/ride quality and details make it a more pleasant place to be cmpared to the fabia.

However if these things are worth the extra £6000 is up fr debate. I think not, hence I have the fabia! They are very different cars...

I'd go for the current model. I'd advise against going for a new model car because it'll take Skoda a couple of years to iron out any problems (same applies for all car manufacyurers). At least if you get the current model you can be sure that all build problems have been sorted.
