You can always contact Skoda UK if you get a unsatisfactory answer from the dealer.

Headliner colour I could live with but I can't believe there's an option to not have a rear wiper...

As it's a mistake from the dealer, they should offer you something as way of compensation or retrofit it once it arrives?

I just received a call from my dealer & despite having no information on Tuesday, he now has a build date of 30th-Oct (CW44) which is just over 2 weeks away.

Fingers crossed it should arrive early/mid Dec....

I guess most of the time its a question of whether they can be bothered to actually look properly into your request or they give you the easy answer "no news".

Well the car I ordered hasn't got the 360 system, nor is it 4x4 so theoretically shouldn't be a long delay! I'm joking of course but not going to bother chasing the dealer as I really don't think they

Hi. I have to reverse back off my drive every time I get in my car and I usually have to give the rear window a wipe to make it clearer to see if anything is coming, I live in a very damp part of the UK! Can't say I've ever thought the wiper looked ugly.

By the way I'm getting nowhere in terms of getting the order changed, simply not possible I keep being told but I've gone to the top of the tree so we'll see. Also theoretically it may be possible to retrofit the wiper it would cost a fortune even assuming you could get all the necessary parts so the dealer isn't too keen on that idea.

A wiper can't be so expensive if the garage provides the labour & assuming the electrics are already available.

Might be worth to start a new thread about the difficulty of a retrofit as there are a few people on the forum who have useful info.

Still a bummer though & I'd be hoping the garage could modify or reorder your car with the spec you wanted even if it might mean an extra delay.

What about cancelling your order completely & making a new order? (Assuming the dealer pays the cancelation fee? )

Apparently its impossible to order a new Superb now so cancelling and reordering isn't an option. The dealer implied that you're pretty much starting from scratch fitting a new wiper, no electrics etc etc. They aren't going to budge on that even if there are people on here that know its not that hard.

I'm just coming up against "computer says no" everywhere. The thing is, you and I know that if someone important wanted to amend their order they'd find a way, its a policy thing I suspect and they don't want to encourage buyers to think that they can change things as the build date nears. There's loads of posts on here and elsewhere where people have discovered the same brick wall I'm now bashing my head off!

i changed my habit of use rear window for reversing 7+ years ago,
when got my first ŠS Mk3 with rear view camera,
for reversing now i use it and side mirrors

but at forward driving, rear windows have been enough clean to able see whats behind.
especially when compare to vagon's and SUV's rear windows

Isn't that discouraged, supposed to back onto your drive, not off it.  Unless you have room to turn around or buy one of those turntables.

Well we're getting a bit off topic but reversing into my preferred position on my drive is problematic.

Anyway, I'm leaning towards accepting the car with the beige headlining and no rear window wiper if my attempts to get the order changed come to nothing. The deal is unbeatable and I dread to think what the new version will cost when the price is finally announced (and I've said before I'm not too keen on what they've done to the interior).

Plus  the cost of subscriptions for navigation & whatever else that want to offer like integrated apps, wireless carplay etc

I hope you are able to resolve the situation.

Maybe you can ask them for free servicing for 1 or 2 years or something like this as a compensation for their mistake if they cannot add the rear wiper?

A good dose of Rain-x on the rear window might help.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well after seemingly banging my head off a brick wall for the past 2 weeks and being told over and over again that "computer says no" I'm delighted to say that Skoda UK have fixed my  faulty order and I'll now get the options I specified when I placed my order. My car is due to be built in week 46 but according to my dealer I shouldn't expect delivery until the new year.

Result..! That's great news.

My car was built on Monday.

I sent an email in jest to ask "is it on the transporter yet" ;)

Hoping to receive it for the beginning of December🤞

My dealer didn't hesitate at all when saying it won't get to them until January. I'm sure I read somewhere that there are delays shipping cars from Europe to the UK, not all down to brexit but I think there have been problems at some of the ports. No matter, I'm happy to wait and enjoy my last few months with my 280 sport line!

My car was supposed to be built on the 30th October.

I've ordered my winter wheels and tyres but the website (Reifen.ch/com) requires the type approval number and VIN number to provide me with the ECE certificate for my car which I need in Switzerland.

I've asked my dealer for this information and confirmation the build went ok but he says "we have no information" & no estimating when I will arrive in their hands.

I'd expect every planned vehicle would have an allocated VIN number & it must have it if it was built..

Surely they should know this information once the car is built?

i'm guessing but yes I'm sure someone or something knows the VIN of your new car. However that person isn't your dealer. What is needed is for the manufacturer to employ someone to act as the link between the factory information and the dealer. That costs money, which is why such a person probably doesn't exist! I know it is annoying that, whilst the information exists, you can't get hold of it. Unfortunately that is life!

I'm sure the information is in a system somewhere & the dealer just needs to put in some effort to find it.

I'm there next week for a service so I've asked him to give me an update on the VIN and where it is.

Whilst it's a different class of car, Mercedes offer a tracking service where you can follow the status of your order from production to transportation across Europe.

My new 280tsi has been built a week early apparently. I'm trying not to get too excited...!

Just the delivery wait now.

I'm on this grind with my dealer now.

Car was built more than 2 weeks ago but the dealer cannot tell me if is was actually built, where it is, when it will arrive or the VIN number....

Getting a bit annoying as I'm sure this is a couple of clicks in a system somewhere.

My car was due to be built this week but I'm not confident I'll get confirmation from my dealer,i really don't think they can see much from their end but obviously someone in the skoda factory knows precisely where it is etc

Rang my dealer for an update today, car ordered in July, apparently it's now at a foreign port awaiting a ship to take it over the north sea so looks like it was built in week 46 as previously advised.

So a couple of weeks to be able to collect it?

Probably not. Dealer advised that there's no hard and fast timetables for different parts of the cars journey to the dealer  and December is an unusual month for obvious reasons. I'm away over Christmas til the new year so even if it does get here shortly I can't pick it up til early January in any event. Suits me as that will mean its registered as a 2024 car.

Jeez got a phone call today - my new car has arrived at the dealers already. That’s 2 weeks after build. Picking it up end of next week. I’m quite excited!
