Winter Wheels & Tyres query

Featured Replies

Looking for some advice on the insurance side of things, ideally without needing to contact my insurance with a "what if" question.

I currently drive a Superb and switch to and from my winter tyres each year and my insurer is more than happy with that.  The winter tyres are on their own rims but are identical to those the car was shipped from the factory so again insurance does not care.

Will be taking delivery of a new Kodiaq next month and am considering my options.  My local dealer is saying they cannot get hold of identical rims so have offered something from the accessory catalogue.  Will insurers consider this a modification or more importantly a chargeable one given that the rims will be official VAG parts.

Thanks

Hi,

From our perspective as a broker, we always recommend talking to your current insurance provider.

We have a number of insurance companies on our books and each one would look at this differently. Some would not allow this at all, but the main insurer we use for the Briskoda scheme would simply have us note down when the change of wheels and tyres takes place (no problem if the wheels are different so long as the size is the same). They don't charge either.

So it's a mixed bag and therefore definitely worth questioning your insurance provide directly.

Hope you manage to get things sorted, and enjoy your new car 🙂

The Skoda accessory catalogue list many alloy rims for the Kodiaq with the correct specification, eg. diameter, width, offset.

They are often identical to the factory rims except for the OEM part number.

They are not a modification because they conform to the car's Certificate of Conformity, ie. they are all Skoda approved.

The "skoda eshop cz" website lists most of the alloy rims (with photos) that are in the Skoda alloy rims accessory catalogue.

7Jx19 ET43 5/112 57.1

8Jx20 ET41 5/112 57.1

If in doubt, check what tyre and rim combinations are shown on the Certificate of Conformity.

The 6.5Jx17 ET38 5/112 57.1 specification is available as a steel rim.
