Can't connect to Android Auto after spillage

Featured Replies

I've got a bit of a  issue with my beloved Karoq after a little accident today.

My wife managed to drop a can of coke zero all over the gear stick and over the USB port in the Karoq.

Having dried it off, the main issue is the USB seems to charge but not connect at all to Android Auto.  The rest of the functions on the entertainment screen work fine, but it's hugely frustrating not having Sat Nav just before going away, and the pain of having no Spotify when a driving holiday in France awaits.

I've tried many a cable to see if it is as simple as that but they all show the phone charging but there's no android auto connection and my phone also says it cannot connect to Android auto either.

To fix this would it be something as simple as replacing the USB port, as there may be a connection issues, or is it a dreaded trip to the dealership?  I try to avoid going there given the ludicrous labour charges so hope to send it to my local garage, or even fix it myself with a few YouTube videos.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Looking on Google, this seems to have happened to lots of people - https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-e&q=spillage+on+car+usb+port

Suggestions:

  • Use a compressed air canister or if you have a compressor with a nozzle to blow out the port.
  • Use a contact cleaner, spray into the port then let dry (designed for mother boards etc…) this will help avoid corrosion.
