A latch would indicate that it can be released with bare hands like the headlights and one of the replys furthered the suggestion, yours however did make mention of a tool, not everyone would have looked at the diagram.

I agree with Mr. Ewing here 🤪, calling it a latch suggests you might do what I tried to do: not take it out completely to avoid dropping bits. That does work for getting the battery out, but you won't be able to clamp it on to the new battery that way. At least I couldn't. And I think that by the time I figured that out I had already fastened the cables to get the car off aux. power ASAP so I had to struggle a bit to get the clamp out and then back in.

As a matter of fact I did, rather casually and possibly because the video I'd watched to prepare my intervention called it that way.
