Converting halogen high and low beam to LEDs

Featured Replies

Hi,

First post here and the only reason why I bring up the subject is that I really can´t find any good information regarding the matter, either that or my google-foo is messed up.

All the post that I find don´t recommend converting to led´s but they seem to be old post with outdated leds or people starts blattering on that it´s not legal, here in Sweden I know they aren´t

but the halogen lights are terrible in our dark and weathery country.

I have found two item´s on a reputable swedish online store and the specs seems legit, it comes with a price but if I get better visibility it´s worth it to me. One is fully compatible with the projectorlense and the other is for reflectors.

One thing I keep on seeing on forums is that led´s aren´t working on projectorlenses like on low beam or that it will mess up the light. But to the contrary these seem´s to be working, or it´s a sell pitch.

My question to you all is do you have any recent experiences regarding the new generation led´s ?

Have any of you tried these or comparable models like the one´s I linked?

To change the bulbs is a nightmare on this model and I need new bulbsocket that work´s with the led. Is it needed/ possible to adjust and align the headlights?

Hi. Yes illegal but I use them and replace for mot. I run LED in high beam, but light scatter isn't good. Much better light but light's up road and the tree tops lol.

As for them in my low beam projectors. No... Took them out as dreadful. Just so bad. I use 5000k 35w HID units in low beam. HID run rings round ANY LED aftermarket bulb.

I have noticed a huge increase in unacceptable light-scatter from oncoming vehicles in the past year - even in supposed dipped mode, the vast majority from clearly LED type equipped cars  - please spare a thought for the poor, now dazzled, driver coming towards you. Pray he or she swerves away from (instead of towards) you.

You get dreadful light scatter when messing around with reflector lens headlights. Will get poor cut off when using LED in Projector lens headlights (whe after market LED are pants). HID in Projector are the Dog's Dollis.. No issue with light scatter. And great cut off, sane as OEM.

Hi, that may be the case -  OP was requesting information on converting halogens to LEDs. There are clearly very good reasons for laws made to maintain certain minimum standards and (hopefully) protect others. Personally, I find my standard Mk3 Octavia halogens to be excellent in all conditions - even when 'Pressing on' as they say.

I also found that LED's were rubbish in my low beam projectors, You got a link to the HID Kit you use please?

Im skeptical about fitment as 1) its a real pain to fit bulbs to the fabia and 2) since its so tight bigger kits dont fit.

Do you think it'd also be worth HIDs in the high beam reflectors too? The LEDs I have in there are like laser beams, great for straight long roads, not so great for the windy ones!

I use the 35w HID kit from HidsDirect. Fitting HID into high beam is a big no. Start up time to full power is too slow. You cannot flash with them, and would bot light the road when you need them quickly enough.

I'm considering also change low beams to HID. Does light chassis handle 35w HID heat without damaging it?
