Whats the system called that automatically controls coasting etc

Octavia vrs iv.

Can some days, no traffic infront slight downhill, leave foot off accelerator and car will coast lovely, other days, same road, nothing infront and it will apply regen braking, I appreciate it would slow down if the vehicle infront was getting close but when there is nothing in front wonder why it applies braking, not over speed limit or anything like that.

No idea what the system is called, but from memory the coasting or braking behaviour can be dependant on how quickly you lift off the accelerator. Do it quickly, I reckon the car assumes you want to slow down; whereas doing it more gradually it thinks you're aiming to maintain speed.

Having said that, I haven't driven an O4 DSG for about two years so may be mistaken...

It is exactly as you described with none EV cars. Although it could be some how different with the iV.

Good point, the ones I drove were the mild hybrid 1.0 e-tec versions but I forgot to mention that bit 🙄

I get the same when in Sports-mode. When in sports-mode, it seems the regen is more active than in the other modes.
