Voice commands and media

Featured Replies

Hi all,

After weaving all over the road trying to access my media on USB stick from the info screen I'm definitely feeling its a but unsafe.

I've tried using the wheel controls and voice and I'm having no luck at all. Is it just my car that has these issues or everyone's? I'm on software 1941 now.

1. Accessing album folders via wheel controls on dash screen. Can scroll though album folders and go up down directories. But when I select first song in folder it fails to play.

2. Voice control. On my old mk3 I could say select album and say name of album and it would play it. On mk4 when I say select album it say "unavailable at this time. Try again later"?

When saying select song it does not seem to understand at all and starts waffling on about navigation

Can anyone got voice commands to work for music connected via USB stick?

Thanks

Nova

Works fine for me; I use something like “play dire straits” and it plays all the tracks in that folder and subfolders.

I've got multiple albums and tracks from artists. Would like to be able to pay them by album instead of artist where it puts same tracks together in abc order

This afternoon I asked mine to “play artistname” knowing the I had two subfolders under artistname, one for each of two albums.

It played album1, in track order followed by album2, in track order.

what I haven’t done is ask “play artistname albumname“.

Will try to remember next time I’m out.

Definitely my car with issue then. Doesn't matter what I say it says "media selection is unavailable. Please try again later" and will not play anything from my USB stick.

Wonder if it's an issue with upgrade 1941. What version is yours

Hadn't bothered with voice control until I tried it yesterday for the first time. When I ask it to play either an album, artist or playlist (from my USB stick) it tells me "voice control is available for navigation and phone calls", then gives examples of how to ask for those. No mention of music so I'm still at a loss with it. What I do find amusing is the somewhat 'impatient' tone when it asks me to clarify what I'm asking for - AI with attitude?!!

Yep same issue I'm having. Phoned the info line from car and they hadn't a clue. Said I need to take to dealer for investigation.

Might do as I'm on fw 1941 now and still getting the reboots

I wonder if that’s a regional thing. I am able to use voice control for media, radio, heated seats, climate control and navigation (though the latter with limited success).

Haven’t yet found a definitive list of what voice control can be used for, nor a guide to the syntax for navigation commands. Certainly works ok in my car for media though.

Hmm, could be I guess. The OP reported the same problem but doesn't reveal where he/she is located. I'm finding one or two contradictions to things that owners in various other parts of the world (and the manual) suggest should be available.

Presumably there's no set up requirement for voice control access eg. tick boxes for services you want it to apply to? I can't find anything relating to that.

I’m not aware of any settings, tick boxes, etc for voice control.

I've spent the last 20 minutes going over it again, and I was wrong, VC does tell me it's available for phone, navigation and media. I missed the latter yesterday. It doesn't offer any connections to other systems in the car (heated seats etc). However I still can't get VC to recognise a command for any music or radio stations at all, so I'm in a similar situation to the OP.

On the USB stick I have music saved as albums and also in playlists I've created by genre. All files are saved direct to the USB root directory and everything works fine when using the screen.

Im in UK in Midlands.

Maybe it's to do with age of car? Mine was built in May-Jun 2023. Sounds like Stevetheelder Has had his for a while? Southern is yours a newish build? Maybe they have changed something with the system which stops functionality working

Mine is MY23, built September 2022. Arrived in AU late November 22.

It's all a bit odd really, since the infotainment system (Columbus in my case) recognises the USB stick and plays, you'd think the VC would pick it up also.

Eureka! Well sort of....but some success at last. Being Sunday I had time to play around with it a lot more and found the VC worked when I asked it to play both artist and album names, exactly as the file would show on the screen. Artist name only or album name only wouldn't do it. Also problems getting VC to recognise titles for my compilation files. Still more playing around needed, but at least I got it to work. Hope this helps you Novascape!

The only other slight irritation is that it always asks me to repeat every command I make, then it works at the second attempt. It may be about pronunciation, pretty tricky if it is the case given the mega amount of different accents and dialects in the English speaking world!

Thanks

Found the issue. MiB3 system will not work with my existing folder structure that worked fine on my Mk3 Octavia.

Having to change my usb folders from \\Albums\artist - album name\*.MP3

To

\\Albums\Artist Name\Album Name\*.MP3

Guessing I'll need a new structure for my audiobooks, Comedy MP3s and a big folder full of 2k+ tracks. Going to have to play with how to setup those.

Unless anyone has a guide to MiB3 media usb setup and what system expects?

Catching up after a couple of busy days…

Mine is a mid[ish]-2020 build, so a bit older than yours.

Nice one!
My folder structure is similar \\artistname\albumname\*.mp3

If folder structure is so critical to the voice control then it’d be good if it was specified somewhere in the manual.

Once you get through the tedium of restructuring your folders the music will sound all the sweeter 😉
