Airbox screw thread

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I have a 2011 Octavis VRS CR 170 and have noticed when my car last went in for service the mechanic over tightened an airbox screw and it looks to have stripped the thread from the bottom of the airbox (as it tightens but doesnt stop as the other screws do, it just keeps on spinning)

Other than purchasing a replacement lower part of the airbox (but i think it comes as a whole) has anyone had this happen and come up with a cheapish resolution (a new airbox is around £200 from skoda!)

Many thanks :)

I don't know for sure because I don't know what the airbox is moulded from. What has worked for me (subject to the glue not melting the plastic) is to half fill the screw recess with an epoxy resin, fit the screw immediately and leave the resin to go off for at least 24 hours.

How many other screws are there? Does that area of the airbox lid appear to distort because of the bad thread?

It's just the one screw and you can see the airbox is higher where that screw would usually hold it tight, from memory I think there are 8 other screws securing the airbox. It'll probably do no harm but if I can fix it fairly cheaply then I might aswel :)

Stick a bit of zip tie in the hole, cut off excess and screw in the tighter hole.

Did that very thing today with one of the 6 screws holding the front cover on one of the fuseboards in my house.

Yes 6 screws and one of the fuseboards, French electrics are very overcomplicated hence why I end up using cheap fuseboards that wont put up with the covers being repeatedly removed.
