Brief Electrical Power Outage (Infotainment System)

Featured Replies

I wonder if anyone can help.

A few days ago my Skoda Superb SE L Executive TDI 190 2018 started to lose most electrical power for 1 second or so, not long after driving.

Sometimes it was noticeable due to heavy steering with loss of power steering, on other occasions the infotainment screen shut down and lights flashed on the dashboard.

Mechanically, the car continued. It was just an electrical power issue.

This mostly happened when I slowed down and then accelerated into a corner.

After these incidents, often a warning light came on for ACC and could not be cleared until the engine was switched off.

If the GPS was engaged, the route was lost.

As a starting point, I removed the battery, checked it was holding a charge and that all terminals including earth were clean and tight. No issues there.

After a matter of trial and error, I believe that there must be a short on the infotainment system - as the problem only occurs when this is switched on.

Any suggestions of what might be going on? And what might be the best way to test the infotainment circuit to look for a short?

Many thanks in advance

Interesting post. Tonight driving home the infotainment went off, abs fault, traction control, acc, and I think the other was cornering light fault. Lights aswell as messages on dash. Heavy steering. Shortly afterwards it all cleared. Happened 4 or 5 times in 15mins. Also 2018 superb.

I had just picked car up from garage after getting new shock absorbers fitted. Wondered if there is a need to unplug anything whilst doing this job?

Thanks for the reply Macsamillion.

Out of interest was it front OR rear shock absorbers fitted? One, both or all?

Thanks,

PS Should note that I got a local garage to scan for faults and whilst there were some error codes - none seemed relevant and all cleared.

  • U112300 Data-BUS Error Value Received
  • U041600 Invalid Data Received from Vehical Dynamics Control Module
  • P064C00 Glow Plug Control Module
  • U042800 Invalid Data Received from Steering Angle Sensor Module

And electrical error continued after they were cleared.

It was all, just had new Bilstein B6 all round. I do recall the infotainment system flashing on and off once before. Never happened again till now. Don't know if it's coincidence or not.

Funny you should ask.

As it happened I changed one rear offside shock before error started.

But that cannot explain the fault... can it?

So I got to the bottom of my issue today. Symptoms - multiple lights on dash including ABS, cornering lights , automatic Cruise control faults. Driving back to the garage the front right wheel started rumbling. I was also getting engine power limits and the traction control light coming on. Got to the garage and directed them it was something to do with the front wheel. They found the magnetic ring on the wheel bearing stripped. Whilst doing the suspension , some dirt/debris got in behind the wheel bearing. Never seated properly and worked loose and stripped. New wheel bearing. Problem solved and no electrical errors.
