Speaker Issues

Featured Replies

Hi there!

In my 2011 Octavia I have installed a pair of Pioneer TS-D65F speakers (both woofers & tweeters) and left the rear speakers stock. They were fantastic even without an amp but since installing an aftermarket head unit (6RD 035 187B noname) the front speakers sound awful but the rears are sounding normal. Switched back over to the old stereo and everything went back to normal. I suspect it’s the stereo not providing enough power to the new speakers which run at 90 watt RMS and an amplifier might be required but if I’m wrong someone please help!

Cheers in advance.

Define "awful".

Very quiet and tinny, the rear speakers completely overpower them

Are the new speakers the same impedance as the old ones?

I believe so, the old speakers have 4 ohms written on the back and the new ones are also rated for 4 ohms. Unfortunately I can’t find a spec sheet for the old speakers

I'd check (if you haven't already) that all connections are good (and no broken wires) and that you have the new speakers wired for the correct phase.

Thanks for the suggestion! I have double checked all my wiring and nothing’s immediately wrong to my eye, the speakers work and sound just fine when I use my old stereo, problems only come up using the new one so I’m quite confused as to what’s happening

It's difficult to say but it sounds like the woofers are getting tweeter input.

Check wiring connector configuration for both head units.

I swapped out the original sterio for an aftermarket one on my 2008 golf sportline. The soubd wasn't anywhere near as good as the original unit, I guess they don't have the same output power
